Intern, Lunder Studio Art Program (for Maine Residents*)

The MFA is delighted to continue the internship supported by The Lunder Foundation. This is a needs-based paid internship offered to an outstanding student who is a resident of the state of Maine. The criteria to apply for this internship are :

The Department offers internships to college students who enjoy working with people and are interested in learning more about the many facets of Museum Education.

The Lunder Studio Art Intern fulfills the important role as Teaching Assistants (TA's) to assist with the Summer Studio Art Class program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. These are week-long, theme-based Studio Art Classes offered to children (ages 5-11) and teens (ages 12-17) that take place on-site in the Museum's galleries and studios. Lunder Studio Art Interns assist with these classes by helping students to understand a range of art concepts, experiment with art materials, and explore the galleries. Interns are expected to design and teach their own lessons, develop classroom activities, and / or implement a gallery visit using the method of Visual Thinking Strategies. This is a valuable opportunity for those interested to work with a wide range of age groups, to explore teaching in a museum setting, as well as gain pre-practicum experience when applying to graduate teaching programs. While interns will work closely with Studio Art Instructors for mentorship, primary supervision will be provided by the managers of the Studio Art Class program.

Ideal candidates must be able to commit to work onsite 35 hours weekly from 8 : 15 am - 4 : 15 pm, Monday-Friday from

June 23 - August 22, 2025 . Interns receive one week off on a predetermined schedule. Additionally, interns must attend orientations on Monday June 16, Tuesday June 17 and Wednesday June 18, and join in the Museum Pathways and Practices professional development activities for up to two hours per week on the following Thursdays : June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, Aug 7, Aug 14, and Aug 21.

The selected interns will be paid at a rate of $ 16.80 per hour. Each intern will receive a $90 per month transportation subsidy, and a $1,500 housing subsidy, (paid in two equal installments.) Both subsidies are subject to taxes.

Essential Functions :
