What are the responsibilities and job description for the AV Services Technician position at Museum of Fine Arts?
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The AV Services Technician provides a broad range of audiovisual support for a wide variety of Museum programs and meetings - lectures, courses, exhibitions, special events and other meetings and programs. As such, this job requires frequent evening and weekend and occasional on-call and holiday work. This position reports to and works closely with the Manager of A/V Services and collaborates with IT Support team members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Deliver, set up and operate media equipment for hundreds of events annually held in the Museum’s auditoriums, meeting rooms, restaurants, galleries, and public spaces, coordinated through a central scheduling system.
- Answer phone and email inquiries as needed to support the department’s customers.
- Strive for excellence in customer service and satisfaction, providing timely delivery, accurate set up and skilled operation of relevant equipment, from projectors and computers to microphones and sound systems.
- Maintain media components and systems within exhibitions and galleries, including routine daily checks of installed exhibitions that incorporate media, and provide assistance on projects for the Manager of Exhibition and Gallery Media.
- Participate in sound checks or other setup checks needed to ensure the quality execution of events.
- Provide technical assistance and instruction as needed to ensure end users can successfully operate equipment such as projectors, hybrid meeting equipment, and laptops.
- Complete multimedia production tasks including format conversions, PowerPoint and Keynote editing and assembly, and other production needs.
- Assist MFA staff with hardware and software related videoconferencing and livestreaming needs on multiple platforms including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Vimeo.
- Identify, report, and assist in diagnosing and resolving problems and implementing repairs, including coordinating with vendors and outside service providers.
- Assist in maintaining department schedule and equipment inventory as needed.
- Assist in cleaning, storing and otherwise maintaining equipment and systems in good repair.
- Provide more general IT support, answering and responding to Help Desk calls and resolving or escalating issues to appropriate staff during times when event support demand is low.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
- BA, certification or equivalent in related technical field.
- 2 years’ experience operating AV control systems, wired and wireless microphones, projectors, sound systems and similar AV technology.
- Excellent relationship management with a professional attitude, demeanor, and presentation, as well as organized work habits.
- Punctual, reliable and respectful with demonstrated customer service experience and acumen.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Adaptable, well-developed team collaboration capabilities, especially under pressure, required.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and responsiveness.
- Confidence and agility when working under pressure.
- A broad working knowledge of audiovisual terminology, technologies, and concepts.
- Comfort with both Windows and Macintosh hardware.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn about and implement technical advances in the AV and In Gallery Technology fields.

SALARY RANGE AND SCHEDULE
Full-Time Salary, 35 hours per week.
Salary Range: $58,000 - $60,000
