What are the responsibilities and job description for the Studio Art Instructor position at Museum of Fine Arts?
Under the general direction of the Senior Manager of Studio Art Classes, Studio Art Instructors will teach art classes for kids, teens and/or adults within the Learning and Community Engagement Division’s Studio Art Class program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Classes take place on-site in the Museum’s galleries, studio classrooms, and/or virtually via Zoom.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop well-structured content with challenging and age appropriate skills, techniques and methods for execution that improve students’ work and ability.
Knowledge of studio practices and time spent in the MFA’s collection should inform subject matter and influence course content.
Effectively model and reinforce community building through a positive and collaborative learning environment with enthusiasm. Be organized, prepared, on time for class and committed to the entire duration of the session.
Master the subject matter and incorporate a variety of teaching styles to support a range of learning abilities.
Provide constructive critique of student work, answer questions and provide professional advice.
Identify specific supplies, equipment and classroom configurations for set up.
Maintain a healthy studio classroom environment, follow safety policies, protocols and procedures and comply with Museum rules and regulations. Communicate and reinforce such information to students.
Offer an engaging and enriching Museum experience that exceeds expectations. Be courteous, informative, responsive, and professional at all times.
Efficiently communicate with program administration to meet deadlines.
FOR KIDS/TEEN AUDIENCES:
Be the primary supervisor at all times during instruction hours and become familiar with any medical concerns, allergies, medications and emergency contacts.
Must be an excellent problem solver who can think on their feet and trouble-shoot issues that arise.
Assist in the supervision and teaching of interns and teaching assistants when applicable.
Is responsible for classroom management.
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience teaching art
Experience writing curriculum and implementing lesson plans
Sign and adhere to policies and guidelines stated in the Studio Art Class Instructor Handbook
Must be able to use stairs and lift 50 pounds
