What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Worker position at Museum of Fine Arts?
Position Overview:
Under the direction of Utility Shop Supervisor, perform all utility duties involving setting-up and dismantling of exhibitions, galleries, and moving of valuable works of art, art objects, materials, equipment, furniture, partitions and the like.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Set-up, dismantle, pack and unpack exhibitions, including loading and unloading vans, move all art objects in building. Hang all paintings and prints, either in Museum or elsewhere. Make trips to transport or assist in transporting valuable prints, works of art and art objects. Function as security guard in transporting art as necessary.
Set-up function areas for dinners, parties, film showings, lectures, etc.
Perform snow removal. Utilizing safety precautions and protocols, operate tractors, blowers, shovels, trucks, etc. Assist in both weather-related and building operation emergencies. Perform clean-up/ maintenance around Museum grounds and courtyards as directed. Care for and make minor repairs of all equipment used.
Raze walls, clean up and remove debris. Assist in erecting staging. Clean exhibit cases and Plexiglas. Move office furniture and a variety of heavy objects, materials in studios and building.
Move materials as necessary in the performance of duties or as directed.
Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to proper supervision. Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
Working hours are subject to change. Must be available for flexible hours. Must be available for overtime (OT) shifts.
Perform other related duties as required or directed.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License (Class D), required
- DOT card required, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire
- Experience with hand tools (ex: hammers, screwdrivers, electric drills, sawzalls, and similar tools)
- Ability to work in inclement weather, such as for mandatory snow removal
- Ability to climb, stand, and stoop
- Excellent safety track record
- Must comply with Museum safety practices, policies and protocols
- Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds
- Must be physically able to meet all job requirements; ability to stand prolonged periods, climb, pull and lift heavy objects

SALARY AND SCHEDULE:
Full-Time Hourly, 40 hours per week
Starts at $39.95 per hour
