POSITION TITLE: Manager of Group and Outreach Programs: Full Time

SALARY RANGE: $49,000 - $55,000/Annually

DEPARTMENT: Education

REPORTS TO: Director of Education

AVAILABILITY: Monday-Friday


The Manager of Group and Outreach Programs is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing programs for groups and outreach at MOSI and off-site. These programs include, but are not limited to MOSI in Motion Outreach, camp-ins, scout workshops, birthday parties, and community and special events. They will build and lead a team of educators to work collaboratively to create and deliver STEAM experiences that promote MOSI's vision, mission and values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports MOSI's mission, values, vision, and core commitment to STEAM programming and community engagement, as well as institutional relevancy for the future.
  • Contributes to and supports the MOSI strategic plan, priorities, and institutional initiatives.
  • Contributes to a positive organizational culture based on mutual respect, a spirit of cooperation, and openness to many perspectives.
  • Participates in a culture of ongoing learning, collaboration, innovation, creativity, and community engagement.
  • Provides leadership and oversite of all aspects of scout, outreach, and overnight programming.
  • Directs and oversees the workflow and daily activities of the Outreach, Camp-In and Scout team and birthday parties including hiring, training, supervisory, disciplinary, scheduling, and evaluation. Effectively communicates and coordinates all memos, meetings, and trainings to ensure overall operational awareness and collaboration. Leads a team that consistently meets and exceeds engagement, project and creative goals.
  • Works in partnership with other department heads to resolve issues and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken in looking for ways to continually improve internal and external engagement.
  • Conceptualize, initiate and teach new programs that respond to audience demand and organizational need.
  • Build and maintains working relationships with staff onsite and at other organizations
  • Demonstrate best practices in informal education and inquiry based science
  • Monitors and maintains resources used for outreach, scout and camp-in programming
  • Demonstrate that MOSI is a leader in STEAM engagement through programming and community events
  • In collaboration with the Education Director and staff, initiate new program ideas, partnerships and revenue sources
  • Contribute to grant writing, implementation, and management of programs including tracking data for evaluations and reporting of grants
  • Oversight of tracking program attendance and contribute to monthly report on area activities and grants
  • Monitor budget expenditures and work with staff to contain expenses
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education to develop budget revenue goals each fiscal year
  • Serve on committees internal and external to MOSI as appropriate
  • Assists with family nights, adult nights and other MOSI education programming as needed
  • Use appropriate technology to advance and support educational activities and programs
  • Assists in creating social media content
  • Works with event staff to provide educators as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises Outreach, Scout, Camp-In, and Birthday Party staff.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing workflow; appraising performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A) or 5 years related experience
  • Previous experience in science center or similar informal educational institution, developing and implementing programs
  • Working knowledge of instructional design and pedagogy
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Strong organizational planning, creative problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities with a focus on deadlines and
  • Valid Florida Driver's license with proven safe driving record, ability to operate MOSI vehicles, including vans.
  • Must be approved to work with children (clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children and Families required).
  • Engaging style and skill in public speaking and hands-on demonstrations including projecting to large groups
  • Employee may be required to often work weekends, evenings and overnights

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Frequently required to stand.

  • Frequently required to talk or hear and utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information and/or use a keyboard.
  • Occasionally required to lift/push/carry items more than 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally exposure to outside weather conditions.


MOSI offers a robust and comprehensive benefit package plan to full time employees. Benefits begin on the first day of the month following 60 days and include:

403(b) Retirement Plan

MOSI has a Tax Deferred Annuity Plan in place to help employees save for retirement. Employees become eligible in the Plan after one year of service and 1,000 hours worked. After that time, MOSI will contribute 3% of your salary and will match your employee contribution up to 4%. You can contribute to the plan immediately upon hire.
