As the Head of Data, you will shape and execute an organization-wide strategy, evolving our data and analytics maturity from "Early" to "Proficient." You'll build and mentor a high-performing data team, collaborate with cross-functional partners (Advancement, Membership, Marketing, Digital, Finance, etc), and foster a culture where data and insights are a strategic asset driving revenue growth and mission-driven initiatives.
What You'll Accomplish :
Develop & Execute Data and Analytics Strategy : Champion a data roadmap aligned with the Museum's long-term goals, taking our data maturity from "Early" to "Proficient." Establish metrics and milestones to measure progress and continually refine the data strategy.
Build & Lead a High-Performing Data Team : Recruit, mentor, and empower a team of 3-5 data professionals (Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Data Analysts). Foster a collaborative, inclusive environment that supports professional growth and innovative thinking.
Implement Robust Data Governance : Design and enforce policies, procedures, and frameworks to maintain data integrity, quality, and security. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and Museum policies.
Optimize & Scale Data Infrastructure : Oversee the Museum's Cloud data warehouse and ETL / ELT processes to maximize performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Evaluate new tools and technologies that support emerging data needs and strategic priorities.
Promote a Data-Driven Culture : Champion data literacy throughout the Museum by providing training, resources, and ongoing support. Collaborate with departments such as Advancement, Membership, Marketing, Finance, and others to drive evidence-based decision-making.
Support Revenue & Mission-Driven Initiatives : Use data insights to enhance fundraising, targeted marketing, visitor engagement, and mission-focused programs. Develop advanced reporting and segmentation strategies to increase participation in educational offerings and events.
Additional Responsibilities : Contribute to special projects and other duties as assigned to ensure overall success and operational efficiency.
What We're Looking For (Competencies) :
Leadership & Communication :
- Proven ability to craft and execute a data and analytics strategy aligned with long-term goals, advancing data maturity with measurable impact. Skilled in engaging and influencing stakeholders to drive alignment and organizational buy-in for data initiatives.
- At least 5 years of experience building, mentoring, and managing high-performing data teams, with a track record of delivering measurable success in an agile environment.
- Experience managing relationships with external vendors and negotiating contracts for data tools and technologies.
- Experience managing budgets for data initiatives, optimizing costs, and ensuring reliable, scalable, and efficient data systems.
- Experience designing and delivering data literacy training programs for non-technical stakeholders to foster a data-driven culture.

Salary Range
123,000—$154,000 USD
