Why We Need You

The Manager of Operations, Centers for Public Science Learning, is responsible for bringing the Centers' work to life in compelling ways for local, national, and global audiences on-site, in classrooms, and online. Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives and in partnership with the three Center for Public Science Learning Directors, this individual will lead a team that both serves as a content conduit to the community (Academia, Industry, Government, and Public) and oversees operations, including project management, resource allocation, grant-writing and fundraising, communications, partnership management, and support for convenings. Critically, this role will also support the Centers in identifying and developing innovative learning experiences by working with each to source cutting-edge science content and collaborate with colleagues to translate those ideas for the public. Through strategic leadership and effective communication, the Manager of Operations plays a critical role in ensuring the success and impact of the Centers.

What You’ll Accomplish

  • Centers Operations Management:



    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Centers for Public Science Learning, including tracking and assessing project progress and expenses
    • Proactively anticipate and respond to operational issues and discrepancies
    • Organize team meetings and collaborate with the Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives to manage resources and coordinate Center projects to enable alignment with broader Centers and Museum strategy
    • Resource Management:
    • Manage budgeting, assigning, tracking, and reporting of staff time and funding
    • Plan the necessary staff and funding resources to support Center activities and coordinate with cross-Divisional Museum teams, as needed, to plan
    • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Manage, hire, train, and mentor a team of 2-3 Program Associates and Coordinators as part of the Centers Operations team
    • Delegate, assign, and monitor team work to ensure alignment with Museum and Center strategic priorities.
    • Develop a team capable of delivering on the Centers' commitments
    • Pipeline and Product Management:
    • Coordinate the lineup of upcoming products and experiences from the Centers, collaborating with Center Directors, senior leadership, and production teams
    • Work with Center Directors to identify and source cutting-edge science content, and collaborate with colleagues to match those ideas to the correct products
    • Ensure the Centers are a vital partnership engine for the Museum
    • Ensure the production of diverse learning experiences and products, such as strategic convenings and other products
    • Fundraising and Grant Management:
    • Manage grant needs, including conceptualization, submission, and implementation, and collaborate on grant writing
    • Partner with the Advancement team to meet fundraising goals and manage the team's funding needs
    • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Manage Center communications and announcements to staff, board, donors, and the community
    • Manage Center webpage content and partner with Marketing, Public Relations, and Advancement teams to enhance visibility and fundraising efforts
    • Support the Centers Advisory Groups' communications and activities
    • Logistical and Operational Support:
    • Provide logistical support for various Center activities, including panel development, travel arrangements, stipends, and event planning and coordination.

    Salary Range: $69,000 USD - $86,000 USD
