What are the responsibilities and job description for the Docent/Tour Guide position at Museum?

If you are enthusiastic and passionate about creativity, history, and the arts we may be the perfect place for you. Our ideal candidate will deliver an engaging, entertaining introduction of our historic 100 plus room museum to every guest.

Our docent serves as an informed and friendly ambassador — educating our visitors on our robust history, museum philosophy, rotating collections -- and of course our secret doors. In addition, docents communicate with visitors and answer their questions during their self-guided tours, orienting visitors with the mansion layout, and ensuring that they have a safe and enjoyable experience.

What you will do:

  • Greet & check-in visitors when they arrive
  • Provide introduction/orientation docent talk to visitors
  • Give guided tours as needed
  • Encourage visitors to shop at our 30,000 square foot gift shop
  • Complete daily report at the end of each shift

What it takes to succeed:

  • Excellent communication skills & positive attitude
  • Interest in history, music, architecture, pop-culture, and the arts
  • Must be a service oriented, people person — guests come first
  • Ability to learn our history and key messages and effectively deliver them to visitors
  • Employ discretion and maintain confidentiality with high profile guests
  • Assist with lite housekeeping of museum grounds/exhibits as needed
  • Ability to stand and walk around for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on need including weekends, special events, and holidays
  • Experience and passion for interacting with the public
  • Team player, able to distill and implement new ideas from customer feedback
  • Multi-lingual a plus
  • Bartending experience a plus

Shifts Available During These Time Frames:
Museum hours: Sunday - Tuesday 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, Wednesday - Saturday 9:00am - 9:00pm

Must be available weekends and holidays

Compensation: *hourly based on experience

  • MUST LIVE IN THE DMV AREA

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Holidays
  • Weekends as needed
