The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:


I.
Contract Position Description:

This is a non-personal services contract for a Music Director/Musician/Accompanist for the Protestant Worship Service.

II. Scope of Responsibilities:

a. Musician will provide musical planning, coordination, directing, and accompaniment for the Protestant Worship Service and associated rehearsals for the Protestant Community at McConnell Air Force Base, working in coordination with the Wing Chaplain or designee. The musician will be able to perform all necessary assigned tasks and will be qualified as stated in this Performance Work Statement (PWS). The musician will support all Protestant activities and functions as required by this PWS.

b. Responsibilities include administering the music program. This includes equipping and leading volunteer musicians, vocalists, and audio/visual technicians. This also includes leading congregational worship, and a volunteer praise team/choir as necessary.

  • Qualifications:


  • The musician shall:
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience playing music in a tradition comparable to Protestant Worship service.
  • Be able to sight read music.
  • Be able to demonstrate skills and proficiency in singing and leading music, playing piano, and/or guitar for rehearsals and worship services.
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of choral and band harmony.
  • Be able to demonstrate musical proficiency in order to lead and accompany a volunteer choir for the express purpose of congregational singing of hymns, choruses and praise songs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to play a wide range of musical selections to include traditional, liturgical, and contemporary styles; all of which will be tailored to meet the worship and liturgical needs of the particular service wherein assigned.
  • Be able to play hymns out of the chapel hymnal, and contemporary praise and worship music.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work with chapel staff personnel and program volunteers of all religious backgrounds and faith beliefs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Protestant teachings, customs and traditions.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the order, function and intent of the order of worship at Protestant worship and special services.
  • Not be required nor be expected to hold any religious beliefs of other faith groups, but shall maintain professionalism, discipline and respect when dealing with religious/spiritual beliefs outside their own personal views.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Provide a resume to support his/her qualification to fulfill these requirements.
  • Adhere to the direction of the Chaplain, and work in harmony with the music directors and choir members.


  • Duties and Responsibilities:

The musician shall:

  • Provide rehearsals and worship services at the Base Chapel or an alternately prescribed location on McConnell Air Force Base.
  • Lead rehearsals and music at worship services, and provide accompaniment at the direction of the Service Chaplain.
  • Coordinate all music support requirements for the Protestant programs with the assigned Chaplains.
  • Be present a minimum of 30 minutes prior to worship services to rehearse with choir, as well as coordinate any last minute details with the assigned chaplains.
  • Be in place at the proper instrument, ready to start on time with the playing of the appropriate musical accompaniment for the services.
  • Be present a minimum of 30 minutes prior to a scheduled rehearsal to coordinate with assigned chaplains and/or chapel staff as needed.

  • Adapt performances and rehearsals to altered worship service content and adjusted times. It is understood that service times and content have the potential to change due to unforeseen sickness, weather, and base exercises.
  • Have custodial responsibility for musical supplies used for his/her work, such as songbooks, sheet music, etc. Upon request by chapel personnel all supplies shall be returned.
  • Assume responsibility for restoring the performance and rehearsal areas to a neat and orderly condition after each performance or rehearsal. All materials shall be displayed in a neat and orderly fashion. The musician shall not depart the area until materials are returned to their original position.
  • Assume responsibility of conservation of energy (turning off all lights, equipment, etc.) before leaving any service, rehearsal or special event.

l. Assume responsibility for securing the facility in the event they are the last person utilizing the facility in conjunction with their programs

m. Perform at the following units/sessions under this contract: 52 worship service performances, 52 weekly rehearsals, up to an additional 12 Special Events/services (e.g. holy day service performances, special events/activities, funeral service performances and associated rehearsals).

n. Must conduct themselves in a professional and business-like manner and maintain a professional appearance.

o. The Wing Chaplain or designated Chapel representative will notify the musician when any base security initiatives are planned and give at least 24 hours’ notice if possible. Scheduled services not accomplished due to base closure (weather, exercise or actual alert) will be accomplished as soon as possible after reopening occurs.

p. Plan and coordinate music selection with the assigned chaplain no less than four days in advance.

q. Select hymns, praise songs, worship songs, and coordinate all music tailored to meet the worship needs of the particular service.

r. Select music via SongSelect or other music software provided by the chapel, or via the musician’s own resources.

s. Shall construct worship slides for congregational singing as needed.

  • Period of Performance:

a. The period of performance for this given contract period is from 1 October 2025 through 30 September 2030; up to five years.

  • Hours of Operation:

a. Standard Duty Hours: Protestant Worship is currently scheduled Sunday at 1100. Rehearsal is currently scheduled Thursday at 1800, but may be moved to accommodate volunteers. Each unit, service and rehearsal, is approximately one hour in length, and arrival at least 30 minutes prior is required. Additional units/services are generally scheduled on Christmas Eve, and Easter. Additional units/services may be scheduled. The total number of additional units will not exceed 12 units; special services and associated rehearsals.
