This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding director, leader and musician to oversee Uppingham School's musical programme.

As Director of Music, you will be responsible for the vision, quality, delivery and effectiveness of music at the school. This will involve leading and managing the Music department, overseeing the planning and delivery of all musical events, and constructing and articulating a vision for the ongoing development of music at Uppingham.

You will ensure that the highest quality musical provision is made available to our students, catering to a range of abilities and genres, creating a vibrant programme which reaches beyond Uppingham, drawing in young musicians from all backgrounds.

About you

We are looking for an individual of considerable creativity, energy and dedication, with a strong track record of inspiring young people musically at all levels and standards.

Ideally, you will possess previous experience at a high level as a director / trainer of choirs, orchestras or other such ensembles, ideally with a focus on young and emerging musicians.

Excellent communication skills will be essential, including the ability to relate to and inspire students, parents, colleagues and high-level musicians.

Music at Uppingham School

Uppingham has long been considered to be one of the leading music schools in the UK. Levels of engagement are high : ensembles include multiple choirs, a symphony orchestra, two string ensembles, a symphonic rock ensemble, a concert band, a jazz orchestra, a pipe band, a percussion ensemble, alongside numerous rock bands and chamber ensembles.

A very busy programme of weekly recitals, ability-led concerts, masterclasses and larger public performances in the UK and abroad, offer pupils of all levels frequent opportunities to perform, with approximately seventy public performances each year. The Department has access to outstanding recording, recital, teaching and practice facilities, including 60 practice rooms, numerous grand pianos and three organs, facilitating a wide range of activities.
