What are the responsibilities and job description for the Continuing Education Instructor position at Muskegon Community College?
Muskegon Community College is seeking to hire Continuing Education Instructors. The main purpose of this position(s) is to teach non-credit classes offered by Muskegon Community College Continuing Education(CE). Continuing Education courses offered will vary based on courses desired by participants – some currently desired topics are art (painting, pottery/ceramics, drawing, etc.), language (Spanish, American Sign Language, German), fitness (yoga, pilates, tai-chi), creative writing, and culinary arts. CE instructors are not covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement for faculty.
The instructor will create a proposal for a class that is appropriate as a continuing education topic, with curriculum, the length of the class, outcomes, and class materials organization. The incumbent will work with CE staff on securing days, dates, and times for class offerings. They will be expected to prepare the class, teach the class, and assess student satisfaction with the class.
Continuing Education fulfills part of the college’s legislated purpose, which includes offering classes in the community for fun and enrichment. The incumbent will report to the Continuing Education Coordinator located in the Workforce Development department.
Essential Functions
- Researching and building a class appropriate for continuing education
- Completing and submitting the Course Proposal Form
- Identify and determine
- Using MCC protocols and procedures, create an appropriate curriculum for a class
- Curriculum development will include clear outcomes and instruction hours
- In coordination with CE Program Coordinator, determine class location, and classroom size needed, and identify resources necessary to run the class, and any out-of-pocket expenses that will be incurred by students
- Prepare the classroom for teaching
- Assess student satisfaction with the class
