Description of Work
A Medical Assistant at Public Health - Muskegon County functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team to support the Medical and Nursing Providers. Duties include coordinating care by gathering and sharing information, participates and assists with the intake process, direct care and monitoring of individuals, performing a variety of laboratory tests to include venipuncture, specimen collection, lab testing and data reporting, monitoring and storage of medications, general support and maintenance of work area and provide customer service over the phone and in person. Flexibility required for occasional evenings and weekends.
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
1. Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test; AND
2. Be a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant certified through the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Medical Technologists; AND
3. Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license; AND
4. CPR Certified
Preferred Not Required Phlebotomy training
Physical Conditions / Work Location
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES Predominantly operates in an office environment with phone calls expected to occupy 85% of the work required. Required to stand, walk and sit; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone, with or without accommodations. Some periods of time may be spent on non-sedentary work activities requiring the lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less. Must be able to perform physical intervention activities as trained / required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS An employee in this class generally works at the Health Department or various community sites. Travel to various locations within the County may be required. This employee will be exposed to blood and
bodily fluids.

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
