What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine Officer On-Call position at Muskegon County?
Excluding the summer season , which may be up to 40 hours a week , this is a fill-in / on-call , as needed position with no guarantee as to the number of hours worked in a given day / week / year.
Under the general direction of the Sheriff and in compliance with well-defined departmental policy and procedure, this employee performs routine marine law enforcement duties on a seasonal basis.
- Have completed 16 college credit hours at an accredited college or university; OR , 16 hours of Fire / EMS Continuing Education Credits; OR , 2 years-service in the United States Military with an Honorable Discharge.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
- Be able to pass the 40 hours of Marine Deputy Training.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
This employee must be able to perform a variety of physical activities such as : standing for long periods of time, running, swimming, climbing and occasionally lifting objects weighing in excess of one hundred (100) pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
This employee completes job duties at the Muskegon County Sheriff's Department and at various lakefront areas.
EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her / his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
