SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer and in conjunction with the Clinical Director, the Optometrists diagnoses, manages and treats conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system. Examines eyes and visual system, diagnoses problems or impairments, prescribes corrective lenses and provides treatment. May prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions. Care is provided to individuals and families regardless of age, race or sex.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Conduct eye exams and vision tests using optometric equipment and general diagnostic interpretation.
Diagnose and treat ocular disease.
Prescribe, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases, remove foreign bodies, analyze test results, and develop appropriate treatment plan.
Recommend appropriate patient follow-up and care options.
Educate patients on proper eye care techniques.
Answer questions and provide advice to patients regarding vision and optical issues.
Keep updated and accurate medical records for all patients.
Refers patients to specialists as appropriate.
As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
Maintains a courteous, helpful and conscientious attitude in dealing with co-workers and patients and their families ensuring professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, LICENSING, CERTIFICATES AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Doctorate of Optometry (O.D.) and a minimum of 2 years’ experience as an optometrist. Certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO), current State of Michigan O.D. License and DEA License. Basic Life Support Certification Required.
