What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finance Director position at MUST Ministries?
General Description:
Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions and to report on consolidated business results. With CFO, develop and manage organizational budgets in alignment with MUST Ministries’ strategic plan. Lead the development of financial reporting, forecasts, and key financial targets including the action plan to create significant MUST Ministries’ financial reserves. Create, monitor, and enforce policies and procedures to ensure fiscal accountability and proper controls.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee the month and year end close process, assuring compliance with GAAP.
- Preparation and communication of the monthly and annual financial statements.
- Coordinate the annual budgeting process to provide forecast, guidance and monitoring for financial performance.
- Coordinate the annual audit and filing of 990 tax returns with external firm.
- Oversee cash flow management and ensure adequate funding while capitalizing favorable rates
- Management of restricted donations process.
- Systems lead with Concur (Invoice/Credit Cards) and Abila MIP (ERP).
- Oversee a team of 2 accountants (Senior Accountant and AP Specialist)
- Maintain financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting systems.
- Active involvement with Board Finance Committee
- Oversee cash, investment, and asset management.
- Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofits.
- Primary point of contact: banking, audit, tax, financial systems.
- Build, maintain and optimize cross functional partnerships
- Prepare special reports and models by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business.
- Manage Financial document retentions polices.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
- Ensure integrity of cash, receivables, and payables management.
- Support effective staff development, training and engagement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications/Capabilities:
- Minimum 7 years accounting experience with track record increasing responsibility and career advancement (nonprofit experience and CPA preferred); minimum 3 years leading a team
- Technical financial analysis skills: data manipulation, report writing, advanced excel (pivot tables), knowledge of relational databases
- Exemplify and exhibit all the core values of MUST Ministries
- Managing people and processes with excellence and attention to detail
- Auditing, accounting, and corporate finance (prefer experience in nonprofit accounting)
- Developing budgets, analyzing data (actual vs budget vs PY)
- Effective communications and presentation skills, including the ability to distill complex data into clear and actionable recommendations
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, economics or related field required, CPA preferred
Physical and Work Requirements:
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment.
- May be required to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Requires sitting, standing, sufficient mobility and physical reflexes.
