Mustang Special Utility District (Mustang) is a local governmental entity providing water and water reclamation utility service in Denton, Collin, and Grayson Counties of North Texas. The Fleet Maintenance Crew Lead at Mustang Special Utility District manages the maintenance and repair of the organizations vehicle fleet. This role involves following the scheduled regular maintenance, ensuring safety and regulatory standards compliance, and maintaining detailed records of all fleet activities. The crew lead verifies the work of mechanics and external vendors, ensuring all vehicles are maintained to the highest safety and efficiency standards. By effectively following the fleet maintenance program, the Fleet Maintenance Crew Lead is vital in ensuring the reliability and operational readiness of the districts vehicles, supporting the districts mission to deliver exceptional utility services to the community.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

- Team Supervision and Coordination: Prioritize, assign, lead, review, and participate in the work of subordinate employees. Ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other maintenance staff and Fleet Management to prioritize and coordinate repair activities. Provide updates on vehicle status and repair progress.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and vehicle inspections. Ensure documentation is accurate and readily available for audits and reporting purposes.
- Vendor Coordination: Work with external vendors and service providers to ensure timely and quality maintenance and repair services.
- Maintenance Records: Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, labor hours, and vehicle mileage. Ensure accuracy and completeness of records for compliance and audit purposes.
- Regular Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and inspections for the fleet to ensure vehicles are in optimal condition and meet all safety standards.
- Emergency Repairs: Perform emergency repair needs, ensuring minimal downtime for essential vehicles.
- Vehicle Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of vehicles to ensure they meet safety and operational standards. Identify mechanical issues and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Diagnostic Testing: Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical components.
- Preventative Maintenance: Implement and adhere to a preventative maintenance schedule for all fleet vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, and other routine services.
- Component Replacement: Replace worn or damaged parts such as belts, hoses, and filters. Ensure that all replacements meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Work Orders: Create, read and interpret work orders or descriptions of problems to determine the type and scope of repairs or maintenance required
- Safety Standards: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Use protective gear such as safety shoes, gloves, and eyewear as required.
- Reporting: Prepare regular reports on fleet status, maintenance activities, and any issues or incidents. Provide insights and recommendations for improvements.
- Efficiency Improvements: Identify and implement strategies to improve fleet efficiency and reduce operating costs. Monitor fuel usage, maintenance costs, and vehicle performance.
- Resource Management: Manage inventory of parts and tools, ensuring that necessary supplies are available for timely repairs and maintenance.

Position Specifications:
This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is subject to the organizations policies and procedures pertaining to overtime hours.
Education:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
Preferred:
- A degree in Automotive Technology, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
Required:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in fleet maintenance or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in adhering to safety protocols and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
Preferred:
- Over 5-7 years of extensive experience managing fleet maintenance for a large organization.
- Professional certifications such as ASE certification or Fleet Management Institute (FMI) certification are highly preferred.
