Role Summary:

The Director of Financial Reporting has a pivotal role overseeing the comprehensive financial close and reporting process, and GAAP financials. With an extensive background in technical accounting, including a deep knowledge of GAAP, and SEC reporting, this position reports directly to the SVP Controller and manages a team of skilled professionals. Operating in a hybrid role based in New York City, this position interacts with executives across departments, serving as a critical contributor to the organization's financial reporting team. Responsibilities include leading the monthly financial close, supervising general ledger functions, reviewing diverse financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and facilitating external audits. By embracing this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping our financial reporting accuracy and contributing to the company's ongoing growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Close Management
    • Drive and oversee the month-end financial close process, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation and review of various elements, including journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany transactions, equity considerations, and ad-hoc analyses
    • Maintain strict adherence to assigned deadlines, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial data during the closing process
  • Financial Statement Review and Analysis
    • Analyze monthly internal reporting packages for senior leadership, developing insightful analytics to communicate the financial performance of the business
    • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual Audited financial statements to ensure timely and accurate reporting according to GAAP accounting principles
    • Review statutory regulatory filings and financial statements along with related workpapers
  • Supervision of General Ledger Accounting
    • Supervise and lead general ledger accounting functions, ensuring the regular and accurate reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts
    • Implement a timely process of reconciliation and analysis to maintain the financial accuracy of accounts
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate seamlessly with executives and teams across various departments to ensure accurate financial reporting, transparency, and alignment with business objectives
    • Communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement and Automation
    • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and automation within financial reporting, driving efficiency, accuracy, and alignment with best practices.
    • Lead or contribute to special projects aimed at improving accounting processes, financial reporting, and overall operational effectiveness.
  • Technical Accounting Expertise
    • Apply deep knowledge of GAAP and SEC reporting requirements to address complex accounting challenges and ensure accurate financial reporting.
    • Research, analyze, and provide insights on emerging accounting standards and regulatory changes, ensuring compliance and appropriate accounting treatments

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA required
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in public accounting or at a manager level, specifically within Financial Reporting in the Insurance industry
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience demonstrating strong proficiency in applying SEC and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) within the context of the insurance industry
  • Extensive knowledge of financial consolidations, eliminations, and segment reporting
  • Proven leadership and management proficiency, encompassing skills in motivation, visionary leadership, personnel development, and organizational design
  • Exceptional aptitude for analysis and problem-solving, showcasing a history of adeptly resolving complex challenges
  • Extensive proficiency in both oral and written communication, facilitating clear and effective interactions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of public accounting experience
  • Experience with Statutory accounting principles
  • Experience with financial software platforms such as NetSuite Financials or Oracle PBCS is a plus
  • Demonstrated mastery in Project Management, effectively leading substantial projects to achieve planned outcomes within designated timeframes and budget

The salary range below describes the minimum to maximum base salary range for this role.  The role is also eligible for an annual bonus, whereby total compensation may exceed this range depending on individual and/or company performance.

Base Salary Range: $126,700 - $190,100
