Summary / Objective
The VP, Commercial Loan Officer is responsible to generate new commercial lending business by meeting with clients, prospects, and referral sources. The responsibility also involves interviewing applicants to gather information regarding loan needs, earnings, and financial conditions, in order to determine the best product that meets the customer needs. The incumbent will obtain credit information and make loan recommendations to loan committee based on the risk levels associated with the loans.
The incumbent is also responsible for monitoring their portfolio for on-going risk, including documentation, the security for the loan, and the on-going business conditions and rental income that serve as the source of cash flow for the loan. Responsibilities include staying in touch with the client and continually monitoring their financials and the condition of the collateral, by periodically doing site visits and documenting same with memos to the file and updating the SVP, Team Leader Commercial Lending on the state of each relationship.
The incumbent will also expand the deposit relationships of their clients, expand the overall increase in new deposits for the bank, and support the goals of the Bank.
Experience & Education Requirements:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in a lending environment
- Extensive knowledge in financial institutions commercial lending policies and procedures
- Five to ten years progressively responsible experience in commercial lending with thorough understanding of credit analysis
Essential Job Functions:
- Originates and reviews commercial loan requests as well as works to increase Bank deposits
- Interviews business loan applicants, provides counsel and works with the credit department to underwrite loans using industry and Bank guidelines
- Reviews appraisals, credit reports, background checks, reference checks and other information as needed on loan applicants
- Outlines loan terms and conditions, and informs the borrowers of loan commitments
- Develops and recommends new loan policies & procedures to upgrade and improve the loan services for the benefit of the commercial loan department
- Researches new legislation and regulations that may affect the financial institutions lending policies. Ensures compliance with new rules by advising senior management and implementing appropriate changes
- Participates in the development of marketing programs for the financial institutions commercial non-real estate lending services
- Actively participates in local business and community activities
- Provides regular reports to the SVP, Team Leader Commercial Lending on lending activities
- Develops new relationships and services exiting relationships
- Recommends proposals to expand current business for commercial real estate and C&I lending
- Maintains knowledge of department policies and procedures through internal and external training activities
- Monitors their current portfolio for evolving risks and issues and elevates any issues immediately to the SVP, Team Leader Commercial Lending
- Monitors underlying business trends in industries and markets in which the Bank does business.
- Makes periodic site visits to the Borrowers and visits the collateral that support the loans.
Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
- Good understanding of lending procedures, laws and regulations
- Sound knowledge of loan policy, compliance, loan operations and quality customer service
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong computer skills including word and excel
