GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under pharmacist supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs pharmacy technician duties as required, including, but not limited to the responsibilities outlined in this job description. These duties should be executed maintaining an attitude of professionalism and within the scope of required competencies for a pharmacy technician.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Must hold a valid Ohio driver’s license
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with Ohio Board of Pharmacy with expectation of becoming Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy within 1 year
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Walking approx. 30 minutes per hour throughout the day.
- Withstanding pressure and deals with emergency situations as needed.
- Average working hours with possible non-traditional hours.
- Potential for exposure to blood and bodily fluids rarely.
- Ability to deal with upset or disgruntle patients in order to deescalate the situation.
- Ability to reach, grasp, and hold various objects.
SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains accurate inventories of pharmaceutical drugs and supplies.
- Accurately and efficiently completes assigned audits such as cycle counts and outdates.
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels, submit, process, and receive orders.
- Maintains a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
- Documents regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training in accurate and timely manner.
- Correctly receives and types prescription data into pharmacy computer software and alerts pharmacist of any drug utilization reports or alerts from software indicating drug interactions or potential adverse events.
- Accurately picks, counts and measures drug dosages for patient’s prescriptions and packages according to policies and procedures.
- Answers phones with positive attitude and utilizes problem solving to find the solutions to a patient’s question if appropriate or directs patient questions to pharmacist or if allowed.
- Understands the operation of cash register and follows all cash handling policies to prevent loss while tendering customer transactions in an efficient manner.
- Adheres to policies and safe practices to ensure the accurate delivery of prescriptions to patients.
- Adheres to privacy policies as well as HIPAA policy to safeguard patient health information from exposure.
- Maintains intermediate computer skills including rapid typing or data entry, ability to learn new computer software systems and employ them simultaneously.
- Maintains appropriate level of knowledge and aptitude for pharmacy law, regulations and medical terminology.
- Capable of calculating doses using algebra and formulas in an efficient manner.
- Maintains reliable attendance.
- Ensures safe practices and avoidance of errors in each step of prescription processing.
- Where allowable by law and policy, perform additional tasks within the pharmacy, such as administering immunizations.
- Attend departmental meetings and participate in open communication.
