POSITION TITLE: Aquatics Manager-MVP Athletic Club-Holland
DIRECT REPORT: MVP Athletic Club-Holland, Director
POSITION STATUS: Full-time, Salaried Commissions
JOB DESCRIPTION: To develop and manage all aquatics team members, swim programs, and aquatics facilities. Specific areas include coordinating, scheduling, and training a highly effective team of aquatics team members for indoor and outdoor pool areas. Responsible for continual education and safety of the aquatics team and club patrons utilizing the aquatics areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Know, understand and exemplify the MVP Sports Clubs Values and Service Standards.
- Ensures that all Team Members (in and out of their department) know, understand and exemplify the MVP Sports Clubs Values and Service Standards.
- Perform all team member appraisals in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintains a quality aquatic staff by hiring, training/orienting, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining as needed; maintains proper payroll records, timekeeping and employee paperwork.
- Provides certification of staff by arranging training in CPR, WSI, Lifeguard; monitors expiration dates of staff certifications; develops and instructs staff on programs offered by club.
- Schedules aquatics staff in order to provide appropriate coverage per staffing policy, including lifeguards and swimming instructors.
- Schedule aquatics programming including but not limited to private lessons, American Red Cross Learn to Swim courses, group fitness classes (with assistance from fitness department), camps, swim teams, events, and adult swim programs, and effectively communicate pool schedule to customers through the website and program flyers in a timely manner.
- Assist with customer program enrollments by helping participants sign up in house or online. With the help of program instructors, assign program enrollees to the correct classes based on abilities. Follow up with as many customers as possible after program meetings and suggest next steps.
- Monitor program progress by quality control procedures, surveying participants, staff for suggestions, etc.
- Talk to at least 10 program participants per month about feedback concerning program.
- Interact with members inside and outside your department encouraging them to try what your department has to offer.
- Identify current and future programming aquatic requirements, trends, and revenue generating potential by establishing rapport with members and staff, management, vendors and reporting back to building Director and Director of Operations with observations/suggestions.
- Work 30 hours per week fulfilling administrative functions. In the event of admin responsibilities taking less than 30 hours per week, Building Director may require Aquatics Manager to work hours on the lifeguard stand.
- Any combination of teaching and program classes must not exceed 10 hours per week.
- Vary weekly work schedule in order to be available to staff working different times of day as well as be present for times of high customer traffic. May include opening, closing, and/or weekends.
- Performs Manager on Duty shift as assigned by Director.
- Carry out existing operational procedures for member service desk including but not limited to scheduling, programming, and swim lesson contracts.
- Effectively communicate with Member Services team regarding changes or adjustments related to the pools or aquatics programming.
- Effectively communicate and build rapport with members & guests by responding to emails and voicemails within 24 hours.
- Coordinates water testing quality with Property team in accordance with state Pool Code.
- Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the pools and pump room.
- Grow the aquatics program and achieve monthly net revenue goals as established by the annual aquatics budget.
- Adhere to all policies set forth by MVP Sports Clubs including but not limited to departmental SOPs.
- Lead regular Service Game training sessions as directed by supervisor.
- Maintain a neat and professional personal appearance, by wearing the MVP Sports Clubs uniform and name badge.
- Other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in related field with emphasis in Aquatics strongly preferred.
2. A minimum of two (2) years instruction experience in swimming or aquatics related program with at least 1-year supervisory experience.
3. Current CPR, WSI, First Aid and Lifeguard certifications
4. Communication and leadership skills needed to supervise and motivate a team.
5. Customer service skills to handle challenging situations.
6. Must be able to work extra hours, weekends and holidays.
7. Excellent organizational skills.
8. Proficient computer skills (word processing & spreadsheet programs). Ability to learn new computer programs.
9. Physical Requirements: Bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit and turn/pivot; Lift/lower, push, pull and carry up to 40 lbs; perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach associated with assigned tasks such as paperwork, typing, and/or word processing, filing, calculating and use of telephone; See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions.
