What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer I - Heat Treat position at MW Components?
Job Summary:
We are looking for a highly skilled Heat Treat Engineer to oversee and manage all aspects of our heat-treating operations. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing heat treatment recipes, adjusting parameters to ensure parts are processed to meet quality standards, and overseeing the operation and maintenance of heat treatment ovens and furnaces.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, design, and implement new heat-treating recipes tailored to various materials and product specifications.
- Analyze material properties and make data-driven adjustments to heat treatment processes, including temperature, time, and atmosphere, to ensure optimal results for hardening, tempering, annealing, and other processes.
- Conduct heat treatment trials and tests, adjusting recipes based on results to meet customer requirements and product specifications.
- Conduct hardness test and adjust as needed.
- Provide technical support to the production team for troubleshooting issues related to heat treatment processes and material performance.
- Oversee the operation, monitoring, and calibration of heat treatment ovens, furnaces, and other related equipment to ensure compliance with specifications and operational safety.
- Ensure that ovens operate efficiently and safely and intervene when necessary to maintain consistent product quality.
- Work with maintenance teams to schedule and oversee regular preventive maintenance, calibration, and repairs of ovens and heat treatment equipment.
- Works with a variety of steels 1075, 6150, 17-7 SS, 301 SS, Inconel 718, Inconel X750.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in data analysis and process optimization techniques (
- Knowledge of microstructure and tensile strengths. Prior experience with microhardness testing and decarb testing a plus
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across teams and departments.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge of microstructure and tensile strengths. Prior experience with microhardness testing and decarb testing a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane and/or other handling devices.
- Ability to lift-up to 50 Lbs.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

Salary Range:
$70,000 - $90,000/Annually based on experience
