JOB SUMMARY
The Tool Maker will review specifications on blueprints to determine materials required and equipment necessary to fabricate tooling for use in the cold heading manufacturing. Will use precision measuring devices to ensure quality and verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of work done.
REPORTING TO
Engineering Manager
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Design, build, and maintain tools, dies and jogs for cold heading and thread rolling operation using machine tools such as lathes, mills and grinders
- Assemble jib kits, gages, jigs, and other necessary equipment to support manufacturing operations
- Operate and maintain all tool room equipment, including lathes, mills, surface grinders and other machinery
- Understand and utilize inventory controls to maintain accurate tool inventory
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Tool and Die Maker, with a focus on cold heading and thread rolling operations
- Have ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Be able to work with engineering and production to solve daily issues
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately and efficiently
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements to include Electrical Safety, Machine Guarding, and Authorized Lockout/Tagout Procedures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong math and mechanical reasoning skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Understanding and compliance with safety rules and regulations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Trade school apprenticeship experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience making tooling for the cold heading manufacturing process is required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., and anything over requires help and/or handling equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand for periods of time, walk and reach with hands and arms. Good close vision and depth perception skills and must be able to stand for shift durations.
