Pipefitter Job Description:
The Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical piping systems to ensure production facilities within the steel mill achieve maximum productivity. This role is critical in maintaining system integrity, minimizing downtime, and ensuring all work adheres to safety and quality standards.
Daily tasks, Roles, Duties and Responsibilities:
The daily tasks, roles, and responsibilities of the Pipefitter include but are not limited to the following:
Pipe Installation & Maintenance:
- Install and maintain pipe systems, supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers using hand tools.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions, plans, and blueprints.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address mechanical pipe system issues.
- Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
- Dismantle and remove old piping systems and replace them with new installations as required.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to required lengths and angles.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and respond to emergency repair needs.
- Proficient in using manual and power tools to modify pipes.
Troubleshooting & Repairs:
- Diagnose piping issues using testing equipment and technical expertise.
- Identify root causes of piping failures and implement effective solutions.
- Repair and reinforce weakened or damaged pipe sections to minimize safety risks and downtime.
- Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication as needed for installations, repairs, and modifications.
Compliance & Quality Control:
- Ensure all piping installations adhere to company and industry safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts used, and repair details.
- Comply with regulatory requirements and follow established operational protocols.
- Conduct inspections to ensure all equipment meets performance and safety standards.
Safety & Compliance:
- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company and industry safety standards.
- Participate in safety toolbox talks to reinforce job site safety practices.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, client safety policies, and company safety procedures.
- Fully understand hazard recognition and risk mitigation.
- Report any safety incidents or near misses to onsite safety.
- Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards and project risks.
- Use Stop Work Authority in appropriate situations.

- Ensure piping systems are maintained in optimal condition to support uninterrupted production.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams, engineers, and operators to address piping concerns efficiently.
- Develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules to minimize unexpected failures.
- Maintain organized records to support equipment history tracking and future maintenance planning.

- Identify potential risks in piping systems and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained to minimize risks to personnel and operations.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, client contractor safety policies, and OSHA standards.
- Report hazards, malfunctions, and unsafe practices to supervisors promptly.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to excellence.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Pipefitter in construction or industrial maintenance(preferably a steel mill).
- NCCER Certification preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Ability to stand, crawl, climb, and lift heavy objects for extended periods

- Safely perform necessary repairs and adjustments to ensure equipment safety and functionality.
- Utilize “Stop Work Authority” if a safety risk is identified.
- Collaborate with supervisors to prioritize maintenance tasks and scheduled repairs.
