Overview:
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Instrumentation & Calibrations, the Calibration Technician supports technical and analytical projects funded by various clients, including AAR, FRA, and other government and commercial entities. The Calibration Technician acts as a support role within the Vehicle Track Interaction & Instrumentation team. The role provides technical support in scientific/professional instrumentation services for all internal/external projects, primarily through the organization's Calibration Laboratory and associated policies. The incumbent's primary role encompasses both lab & field calibrations as well as lab and field instrumentation, technical troubleshooting, and adhering to quality control procedures. A consistent professional attitude and effective communication style are characteristics required for this role. Further, the adherence to quality, traceability, risk mitigation, and technical proficiency as standards are critical to the success of the position. The incumbent will apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, electronic theory, and metrology in executing MxV Rail procedures and techniques for calibrating/verifying measurement devices and data collection systems. Additionally, this person participates in the evaluation, creation, & application of standards and process improvement to maintain the accuracy and reliability of MxV Rail equipment. Finally, the incumbent is responsible for working with & coordinating with other groups or individuals to ensure that barriers are minimized and a mutually respectful and cooperative team culture is promoted.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides technical support by performing calibration services, technical repair, and maintenance of all MxV Rail data collection transducers, systems, & equipment.
- Participates in and supports internal or external laboratory audits and corrective actions.
- Maintains & updates the calibration laboratory database for accuracy, traceability, and risk mitigation for all assets therein.
- Ensures all equipment is safe, within calibration, properly documented, suitable for projects as requested, and verified accurate through calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
- Ensures all calibration standards, procedures, and norms are followed, documented, reviewed, & updated as applicable.
- Safeguards all work and promotes the performance of duties in a manner that supports MxV Rail's Safety, Quality, Corporate, and Strategic Research Initiatives while providing calibration services for the organization.
- Promotes MxV Rail's capabilities as required.
- Maintains flexibility, agility, and an open mindset to solve unique problems as well as perform tasks and roles required outside of this position description.
- Participates, actively monitors, and adheres to regulatory guidelines for support teams as they pertain to the site Learning Management System, Compliance Bursts, and any other essential platform as required by MxV Rail's Senior Leadership.
- Ensures that all duties and responsibilities are performed in a safe manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities:
- Open to learning and living the MxV Rail values (Momentum, Insight, Teamwork, Rigor, Purpose) in all facets of the organization's work.
- Ability to obtain a certified calibration technician certificate through ASQ within 90 days of employment.
- A High school diploma.
- Post-high school training, education, or experience in a technical discipline such as Electronics, Instrumentation, and or Controls.
- Experience in the field of metrology, calibration, instrumentation, railroad instrumentation, or other similar fields (electrical, aerospace, etc.) with troubleshooting and measurement training.
- A current Colorado Class "R" Driver's License.
- Ability to utilize proper methods, practices, and procedures while maintaining, repairing, testing, and adjusting electro-mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic systems, controls, and measuring instruments.
- Ability to utilize instrumentation and electrical equipment for calibration, maintenance, or repair while adhering to precision measurement, quality assurance, and documentation practices as defined by MxV Rail's quality program.
- Travel as required, but at a minimum, travel between MxV Rail facilities in support of both internal and external projects.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical illustrations, blueprints, maps, plans, specifications, wiring, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams.
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, printers, scanners, and other supporting software applications.
- Experience in database entry and management.
- MxV Rail policy requires all prospective employees to complete a criminal background check (Disclosure for Consumer Reports Consent Form) and a pre-employment substance abuse screening (Applicant Consent for Drug Testing Form) as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience in metrology, calibration, instrumentation, or similar fields (electrical, aerospace, etc.) with troubleshooting and measurement experience applied.
- Currently holds a valid Certified Calibration Technician certificate through the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
- Currently holds a valid Master Certified Electronics Technician certificate (CETma) through the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA).
- Currently holds a valid Industrial Electronics Certification (IND) through the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA).

Salary Range: $56,685 - $60,463 DOQ
