What are the responsibilities and job description for the Track Foreman position at MxV Rail?
Overview:
MxV Rail is seeking a strong leader to oversee our Track & Guide Way Team. As a working manager, this position will be responsible for training, job assignments, and directing the day-to-day operations of the track team. The candidate will also aid in making decisions and will lead others in the correct methods for track repair and maintenance tasks that need to be performed to FRA, MxV Rail, or AREMA specifications, as applicable.
Primary Duties:
Management & Daily Operations
- Work directly with the MxV Rail Operation Managers to build and maintain a strong team of skilled track workers.
- Develop redundancies within the team by cross-training.
- Conduct administrative tasks such as timesheet/expense report approvals.
- Maintaining a safe, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
Maintenance and Inspection
- Inspect the condition, maintenance, repair, and construction of MxV Rail/PCD railroad tracks, railroad turnouts, bridges, and other supporting track structures using various methods, including walking the track, riding/driving hi-rail vehicles, and riding on trains.
- Implement remedial action on defects pending repair, remove the track from service, and stop operations when inspections reveal an unsafe condition.
- Performs railroad track maintenance work, including rail measuring, rail cutting, rail replacement, spiking, anchoring, and rail drilling.
- Documents track inspection reports and track repairs completed.
- Maintains the operational condition of all assigned equipment.
- Installs thermite welds per manufacturer, MxV Rail, and AREMA procedure(s).
- Familiar with installing flash butt welds in accordance with established manufacturers, MxV Rail, and industry standards.
- Grind thermite welds and flash butt welds to specification using specialized equipment.
- Inspect welds after grinding for cracks and visible defects.
- Uses SMAW and FCAW to repair switch points, frogs, and rail end build-up.
- Operates propane/oxygen and acetylene/oxygen for preheating and cutting operations.
- Ensures that all duties and responsibilities are performed in a safe manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Open to learning and living the MxV Rail values (Momentum, Insight, Teamwork, Rigor, Purpose) in all facets of the organization's work.
- High School Diploma/GED. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ten years of experience working for a rail transit agency or Class 1 railroad.
- Experience in management or supervision in technical operations.
- Knowledge of FRA and AREMA track standards.
- Must hold a current and valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (Special permits, if required, must be maintained to operate any vehicle or motorized equipment on company property).
- One year of experience in the thermite welding process and/or one-year flash butt welding process.
- One year of vocational/technical education or on-the-job experience in electrical welding and gas-cutting operation.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal, visual, and written communications.
- Customer support operations will require shift flexibility. The candidate must work shifts varying from morning, afternoon, evening, and overnight. Weekend and holiday hours may also be required.
- MxV Rail policy requires all prospective employees to complete a criminal background check (Disclosure for Consumer Reports Consent Form) and a pre-employment substance abuse screening (Applicant Consent for Drug Testing Form) as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the above, the following qualifications are preferred:
- AWS certifications in SMAW and FCAW.
- Certification in Orgo and Boutet Thermit Welding.
- Commercial driver's license (CDL).
- One year of heavy equipment operation.
- Skilled in the operation of the arc gouging process.

- Environment: Railroad environment: exposure to noise, grease, fumes, gases, electrical energy, toxic materials, and inclement weather conditions.

Heavier lifting may be required, but only with proper assistance, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, working at heights, diagnosing equipment maintenance needs through listening and feeling machine surfaces, and working in confined spaces.
- Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate the equipment. Ability to discern between colored wires and color wiring diagrams.
- Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Salary Range: $57,535 - $63,000 DOQ
