Job Title: Medical Billing and Coding Specialist
Location: 1560 Beam Avenue Suite F Maplewood, MN 55109
Hours/Schedule: Monday-Friday
Supervision: Reports directly to the Medical Director
Job Duties:
This role is responsible for the billing and collection operations for professional services including, but not limited to, responding to correspondence in a timely manner, assisting the physician practice office staff in responding to patients with questions regarding their patient accounts, completion of all collection-related activities and ensuring accounts receivable records are kept in accordance with established procedures.
Maintains/performs personnel requirements for department staff including job descriptions, performance appraisals, disciplinary action, continuing education, and proficiency testing for compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Provides for employee selection, orientation, training, and review. Provides appropriate staffing to perform departmental functions to meet expectations of departmental customers.
Job Requirements:
- Insurance Billing and Collections
- Understand the Medical Insurance Claims Process for Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial payers, and Work Comp
- Claim Scrubbing
- Collaborate with Clinical and Operational Managers to ensure continuity between the client services that are scheduled, performed, billed, and collected
- Manage claim rejections and denials
- Accounts receivable – Resolve outstanding insurance and patient accounts
- Patient relations – Assist with patient calls, reviewing balances, and accepting payments
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of medical billing experience
- Understanding of insurance requirements
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Ability to organize, monitor, and track claims in relation to Revenue Cycle Management
- Familiarity with payer provider portals and the ability to navigate multiple software applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft applications
- Discretion in handling and communicating sensitive information
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment
- Demonstrated attentiveness to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience with various documentation and Electronic Medical Records
- Expert knowledge of NCCI/OCE billing edits as it relates to outpatient facility and/or professional services coding and billing
- Industry knowledge of Medicare regulations and payment policies, including OPPS
- Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
- Demonstrated professional communication skills, oral and written
- Proven ability to manage time efficiently and follow through on duties to completion
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments and multiple spreadsheets, documents, and reports
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Must have one of the following active certifications:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Coding Specialist Physician based (CCS-P)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Registered Health Information Administer (RHIA)
