HOURS                     Contracted

REPORTS TO           Clinical Services Manager 

COMPENSATION     $50/hour clinical rate; $15/hour non-clinical rate

My Possibilities offers counseling services tailored to the unique needs of adolescents, adults, and their families with a wide range of physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities. The LPC role is key to the success of the organization.  Counseling can help to decrease stress and anxiety, increase emotion regulation, improve social navigation needs, reduce depression, assist with learning healthier ways of self-expression, work through grief and loss, improve skills needed to build and understand healthy relationships, learn new ways of coping with life’s challenges, boost self-esteem, improve life skills, navigate life transitions, and help enhance one’s quality of life. 

 

Often counseling includes collaborating with parents and/or caregivers to assist with improving family interactions and providing education on how to support their child during phases of life transitions.

 

They provide individual, family, or group therapy services to assist individuals in achieving more effective social functioning. Formulates and implements treatment/intervention plans. Responsible for record keeping, reports, and notes for service billing.

 

Essential Functions

  • Conducts initial patient assessments
  • Conducts psychosocial assessments
  • Develops treatment plans
  • Provides individual, group, and family therapy
  • May assist with difficult behavior and/or crisis situations within the program
  • Maintains up-to-date files on all clients
  • Writes and provides accurate and timely notes by the daily/weekly deadlines
  • Consults with staff concerning HIPster needs as related to treatment/intervention plans
  • Provides indirect consultations on mental health issues to staff as needed
  • Develop therapeutic rapport with HIPsters and establish working relationships with all staff
  • Prioritize HIPster safety and dignity in all decisions
  • Respond, as needed, to de-escalate behaviors in accordance with behavior plans and My Possibilities’ protocol
  • Participate in incident footage reviews and family meetings, as needed
  • Complete and submit detailed documentation as required
  • Collaborate with instructional staff to create and implement lessons or environmental modifications which best support identified HIPster needs
  • Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills to support all HIPsters
  • Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job
  • Maintains up-to-date files on all clients
  • This position may require assisting with clients’ behaviors and working with the program staff to understand the proper techniques/tools to allow for the client to be successful in classroom and community environments.

 

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Experience working with adults with special needs a plus
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing (sign language a plus)
  • Experience and interest in using a variety of Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices a plus

 

Minimum qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counseling or social work 
  • Excellent people skills
  • Ability to be creative/imaginative in finding solutions
  • Proven ability to be patient in stressful situations
  • Demonstrated adaptability in handling complex situations

 

Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience, preferred

 

Specialized Knowledge

  • Licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker. We're not able to accept LPC-Associates at this time.
  • Must have current Texas Liability Insurance.
  • Current CPR and CPI certifications.
  • Must be able to clear a background check with no related offenses jeopardizing the integrity of our program. 
  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and valid car insurance required.

Dependent upon level and need.

 

Working conditions

My Possibilities has moved to a campus model. Therapy is typically delivered in offices or in the classroom setting, with some opportunities for community-based therapy as appropriate. Must be able to utilize regular office equipment such as computer, phone, fax machine, scanner, copier, etc. to accomplish job requirements.  This position may require handling behavior situations throughout the building and in the community, which may require running, lifting, bending, and crouching.

 

All potential employees must pass a background check and drug screen test.
