PAY RATE $15.14-$20 hourly
This position is in-person and onsite at our Plano, TX campus. This is an entry-level to associate-level instructor position to teach adults (18 ) with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD). No teaching certification is required.

Who we’re looking for
The Education Program is the heartbeat of My Possibilities. As an Instructor you would have the honour and privilege to directly support our HIPsters and make everyday count for them each and every day. Instructors are responsible for teaching lessons, and leading classroom activities/discussions, a background in education and lead teaching is preferred. Success factors Include, compassion for different abilities/disabilities, flexibility In and out of the classroom, ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and a passion for serving our mission. Putting HIPsters first in all decision-making, strong communication skills to HIPsters and staff as well as a desire for fun will make you a great fit for this role.
Essential Functions
- Teaches for 25-35 hours per week in independent living skills, social skills, vocational skills, or other related subjects, to HIPsters at My Possibilities.
- Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of our HIPsters.
- Writes lesson plans that meet the requirements of our curriculum template for elective classes and may modify existing core class lesson plans.
- Assists HIPsters during recreational activities, physical exercises, therapeutic activities, and any other activity that may require slight additional assistance.
- Lead and transport groups of HIPsters into the community for projects and volunteer opportunities.
- Responsible for upkeep of 10-20 HIPster goals and notes on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and must turn in all documents to the Billing and Contracts Specialist on time.
- Must adhere to all confidentiality guidelines of our HIPsters and their families.
- Acts as a role model and mentor to our HIPsters, working hard to always keep a professional demeanor.
- Regularly keeping up with communication with both staff and families.
Competencies (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
- Experience working with adults with special needs a plus.
- Experience working with behaviors is a plus.
- Must have experience in using Microsoft applications and Google Drive.
- Understands instruction methods including curriculum-based instruction and the implementation of lesson plans.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills (sign language a plus)
Minimum qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred
- Preferably in Special Education
- Social Work or related field will also be considered
- In Specialist/Related subject of teaching Art, Culinary, or Technology
Experience
- At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with special needs in a teaching capacity.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.
- Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and valid car insurance required.
- Must be able to clear a background check with no related offenses jeopardizing the integrity of our program.
- Must be able to get certified in CPR/First Aid and nonviolent crisis intervention within state-mandated timelines.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Will be overseeing HIPsters and working in conjunction with other Instructors.
Working conditions: This position will be required to
- Sit, stand, and bend throughout the day
- Occasionally lift up to 75lbs.
- Clean up body fluids to maintain safety and dignity of HIPsters
