Overview
The Housing Navigator plays a crucial role in assisting individuals and families in securing stable housing. This position involves working closely with clients to identify their housing needs, provide guidance through the application process, and connect them with available resources. The Housing Navigator will advocate for clients, ensuring they understand their rights and responsibilities while navigating the complexities of housing options.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to determine clients' housing needs and preferences.
- Assist clients in completing applications for housing programs, including Section 8 and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) properties.
- Provide information on Fair Housing regulations and ensure compliance throughout the housing search process.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients and foster self-sufficiency.
- Negotiate with landlords and property management companies on behalf of clients to secure suitable housing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local housing resources, including shelters, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing options.
- Offer crisis management support to clients facing immediate housing challenges or emergencies.
- Collaborate with social service agencies, addiction counseling services, and other community resources to support client needs.
- Document client interactions and maintain accurate records using software such as OneSite.
Skills
- Strong understanding of LIHTC programs and Section 8 regulations.
- Proficient in motivational interviewing techniques to effectively engage with clients.
- Knowledge of property management practices and laws related to housing.
- Familiarity with Fair Housing regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent negotiation skills to advocate for clients with landlords and property managers.
- Experience in crisis management to assist clients in urgent situations.
- Background in addiction counseling is a plus but not mandatory.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to build rapport with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour
