Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads a team of engineers in optimizing manufacturing processes, implementing new technologies, and ensuring the smooth transition of products from design to production. This role develops and implements Lean strategies, mentors engineers in process improvement techniques, and oversees projects that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality. The Manager, Manufacturing Engineering collaborates with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement, champions the adoption of new technologies, and ensures that production processes are robust and scalable. This position works closely with R&D to ensure new products are designed for manufacturability, and partners with production to troubleshoot process issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Coaches, mentors, and develops the Manufacturing Engineering team, building technical expertise and empowering them to independently manage and troubleshoot production processes
- Leads and supports process improvement initiatives, including Lean methodologies, aimed at reducing costs, enhancing productivity, and improving quality and reliability
- Spearheads cross-functional projects to optimize production workflows and improve operational efficiency, serving as the key liaison between Engineering, Production, and external contract manufacturers to ensure smooth transitions from product design to full-scale production
- Actively participates in engineering design reviews, championing design for manufacturing principles to ensure manufacturability and ease of assembly, and leads the smooth transfer of new product designs and Engineering Change Notices (ECNS) into production, collaborating with R&D on process capabilities and ensuring production teams are fully equipped
- Oversees the review, approval, and implementation of ECNs to ensure seamless integration into production; ensures all product changes are communicated and documented properly, with accurate and updated SOPs and Work Instructions (WIs)
- Collaborates with R&D to provide input on process capabilities and ensure that production teams are fully equipped with the necessary documentation and training
- Ensures all machines meet quality standards before they are transitioned to Applications Engineering for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), a critical KPI for measuring team success and product readiness
- Analyzes data and presents findings to identify opportunities for risk mitigation, cost savings, and quality improvements; supports decision-making through evidence-based insights
- Performs other duties as assigned
