We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Ad Sales to lead and establish our direct advertising business. As the founding member of our sales team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping MyFitnessPal ad sales strategy and building a high-performing ad sales and account management team. This team will be responsible for building strong relationships with advertisers and driving media spend on MyFitnessPal across the CPG, Health & Beauty, Retail, Technology & Electronics, Healthcare, and Pharma industries. The ideal candidate will have a proven and consistent track record of exceeding revenue targets and collaborating with advertisers to achieve their campaign objectives.
What you will be doing:
Sales Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement a comprehensive ad sales strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and user experience principles
- Drive revenue growth by identifying key verticals, expanding the advertiser pipeline, and optimizing sales performance
- Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, and advertiser needs to refine sales strategies and identify new opportunities
- Represent the company at industry events, strengthening brand presence and fostering strategic partnerships
- Partner with the CRO, Product, Marketing and FP&A team to define the ad product portfolio, pricing models, and sales framework to maximize revenue while delivering value to advertisers
Partner Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key advertisers, agencies, and industry partners to drive long-term revenue growth
- Lead negotiations with top-tier clients, securing high-value deals and long-term commitments
- Ensure excellence in client servicing, fostering trust, transparency, and long-term advertiser satisfaction
- Enable sales teams with tools, insights, and resources to deliver compelling solutions to strategic clients
Team Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Build and manage a high-performing ad sales team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation
- Implement efficient, repeatable sales processes to optimize performance and maximize sales productivity
- Leverage data and performance metrics to drive decision-making, forecasting, and continuous improvement
- Develop training and mentorship programs to support team growth and professional development
Qualifications to be successful in this role:
- 10-15 years in direct ad sales in digital advertising, with expertise in innovative formats and ad technologies
- Exceptional leadership abilities, with a track record of managing high-performing sales teams and driving operational efficiency
- Ability to cultivate and build relationships at the VP/C-suite level with major brands and agencies, driving long-term partnerships and large-scale deals
- Deep knowledge of the ad tech ecosystem, including measurement, reporting, privacy, automation, and vendor onboarding
- Data-driven mindset, leveraging insights to assess campaign performance, optimize ad sales strategy, and drive business decisions
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with legal, finance, and operations teams to negotiate and onboard new advertisers to MyFitnessPal
- Strong negotiation skills, with experience structuring both standard and innovative ad-buying agreements
- Experience working at major publishers, agencies and retail media networks (e.g. WPP, Publicis, Google, Snap, TikTok, Target Roundel, Criteo, etc.) a plus
- This role will be based in New York and may require 30-50% travel
- Salary Range Commission $190,000 - $400,000
