Associate Director (External R&D Project & Portfolio Management)
Introduction to role
The Associate Director, External R&D Project & Portfolio Management, plays a crucial role within AstraZeneca's Oncology External R&D group. This project management position focuses on supporting key oncology collaborations and partnerships with academic institutions globally. There is a particular emphasis in this role on project management activities relating to the Partners of Choice (PoC) Network, a global consortium between AstraZeneca and select top academic institutions and oncology medical centers, which aims to change the clinical paradigm in some of the hardest-to-treat cancers through the application of innovative translational science.
Accountabilities
Provide project management support for key academic oncology collaborations and external partnerships within the Partners of Choice Network.
Coordinate calls for proposals for PoC collaborations. Facilitate and manage the proposal review process, including governance preparation.
Work closely with the alliance leads for each PoC site to track the PoC collaboration portfolio from contracting through collaboration execution and close-out.
Partner with PoC lead to organize and run internal and external PoC project management meetings, site engagements, and network meetings and events.
Liaise with PoC site leads and project managers for updates and information exchange regarding ongoing and planned collaborations, as well as PoC meetings and events.
Provide project management support to activities and events related to External R&D's other key academic alliances.
Essential Skills/Experience
Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline with 5 years of experience in project management within an R&D environment (e.g. Discovery, Translational Medicine, Drug Development program management).
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with keen attention to detail.
Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively understand and act on complex information under high time pressure.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively within teams and with external partners.
Ability to work independently and make decisions confidently within a dynamic environment.
Desired Skills/Experience
Master's degree in a relevant scientific or business discipline preferred

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $134,866-$202,299. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
