Job Description
As the Senior Director of Manufacturing Network Strategy, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Vertex's manufacturing network to meet the needs of our organization and support the delivery of life-changing therapies to patients worldwide. You will leverage a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical manufacturing environment and your analytical skills to spearhead the development of robust business cases that inform critical strategic and operational decisions related to how Vertex manufactures its therapies. You will be responsible for working with cross functional stakeholders in commercial manufacturing and supply chain, quality, finance, regulatory and development/clinical manufacturing groups to develop and maintain short-term and long-term network strategy goals in service of Vertex's goals to have robust supply chains, efficient but flexible production, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role is central to advancing Vertex's pipeline and ensuring the financial and operational efficiency of our manufacturing network.
This is a Boston based position requiring 3 days/week onsite.

$219,300 - $329,000

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain manufacturing network strategies, identifying external environment, current network capabilities and performance and internal operational factors that affect how Vertex's network needs to evolve to meet the changing needs of Vertex's business and pipeline.
- In partnership with Disease Area Product Leaders, develop and maintain product-specific manufacturing strategy documents and presentations.
- Partner with Vertex's manufacturing, quality and regulatory leaders, as well as data analytics and finance teams to perform data analysis and modeling, utilizing advanced statistical methods and data visualization tools to optimize manufacturing network performance and scenario planning
- Work with cross functional stakeholders to develop and track progress against short-term and long-term network strategy goals in service of Vertex's goals to have robust supply chains, efficient but flexible production, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Partner with the Supply Chain, External Manufacturing and Internal Site Leadership teams to assess long term manufacturing and capability needs of Vertex's network and integrate those considerations into network strategy decisions.
- Partner with technology teams to integrate our technology roadmap goals with our network strategy goals. opportunities to increase tools used on the job to improve the effectiveness and results.
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering. MBA or equivalent experience reflecting a strong strategic and operational background
- 15 years of experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or a similarly highly regulated industry, including substantial experience in manufacturing operations and strategic planning with engagement in Technology, Development, or Engineering
- Proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders across functions, especially at the senior leadership level
- Demonstrated capability in developing and leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects
- Experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and financial analysis
- Experience in managing large-scale change initiatives within a manufacturing context
- Advanced proficiency in data visualization and supply scenario planning tools
- Demonstrated success in developing operational strategies for new modalities in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
- Strong project management skills and expertise
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills
