We're looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead a strong engineering team in building customer experiences (CX) on Amazon that will delight shoppers looking for merchandise from their favorite sports, music, and more. This role will work with a variety of stakeholders to define strategy and roadmaps, lead an engineering team in a disciplined execution of that roadmap, while holding to operational excellence, and supporting the team with growth and sustainable pacing.
To succeed in this role, you must be a self-starter who works well with cross-functional partners (e.g., business, product, science and program) to define a plan that is ambitious yet realistic. You also thrive on disciplined execution, utilizing mechanisms to audit progress and being technically deep as needed. You hold to operational excellence targets. You genuinely enjoy growing your people, and supporting them as they build happily, sustainably and productively together.
You do all this in a collaborative environment with all your partners.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Key job responsibilities
- You partner with business, product, science and program management to define strategy and roadmaps.
- You own the smooth execution of your roadmap, bringing discipline through regular audits and deep dives as needed.
- You hold a high bar of operational excellence.
- You genuinely care for and grow your team, and build a culture that is happy, sustainable and productive.
- 5 years of engineering team management experience
- 7 years of engineering experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment
