JOB SUMMARY - SMT MACHINE OPERATOR
Set-up and operate computer-controlled machines that automatically apply solder paste and glue and/or places electronic components onto the surface of printed circuit boards.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Below is a listing of the job functions this position performs. Other duties may be assigned.
- Reads work instructions and set-up guidelines for proper operations and verifies each machine set-up.
- Types computer commands to enter program that directs screen printing machine and perform set-up and operational duties.
- Types computer commands to enter program that directs machine to place components in specified sequence and location on PCBs.
- Position reels, trays or plastic tubes containing components into feeding mechanism to load machine.
- Positions PCBs on machine conveyor, starts machine and monitors machine operation.
- Removes assembled PCBs from machine and inspects PCBs for defects, such as missing or misplaced components.
- Perform set-up duties on reflow machine and process populated PCB through reflow process.
- Perform final inspection functions and rework defective solder connections.
- Runs router and/or de-panel equipment to separate PCBs from the array.
- Stops machine and notifies supervisor or maintenance mechanic of machine malfunction.
- Records production information such as production levels, machine downtime and defects.
- Makes minor machine adjustments and clears machine jams.
- Perform preventative maintenance and document service.
- Report safety, quality, production and personnel concerns to management immediately.
- Stop shipment or production process for quality or safety concerns.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in this role, an individual should meet these minimum education and experience requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
To perform the job successfully, an individual should be able to meet the physical requirements of the position:
- Work in a standing position and be able to twist, turn, reach, bend and grip.
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a manufacturing environment using various pieces of equipment.
