POSITION PHILOSOPHY :
T.C. Harris School and Academy is a residential treatment center and therapeutic day school, providing therapeutic and educational services to children, adolescents and young adults with developmental / intellectual disabilities, autism, and other related disabilities.
The primary function of the Occupational Therapist at T.C. Harris is to facilitate student growth and education in the academic setting. This is achieved through evaluation, individual and group therapy, observation, report writing, IEP goal setting / progressing, and participation in student-related meetings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Provide support T.C. Harris Education Team to plan, organize, and conduct occupational therapy treatment for children in Special Education ages 6-21.
- Provide direct occupational therapy services in accordance with the students’ mandated IEP and service goals
- Therapy is with the goal to improve, develop, restore, or maintain a child's active participation in self-maintenance, work, leisure, and play in education environments.
- Work with students to develop functional skills, allowing them to succeed in the classroom.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations as part of Special Education service determination.
- Complete progress monitoring documentation such as daily notes
- Serve as an IEP team member by attending meetings and submitting paperwork as needed to maintain compliance.
- Ability to provide teletherapy or virtual therapy if needed.
- Ability to use good judgment, make quick decisions, and use good problem-solving skills
- Ability to read, speak, write, and understand English
- Ability to maintain self-composure and self-control
- Ability to comply with orientation requirements
