What are the responsibilities and job description for the Training & Development EMR Specialist position at myPlace Health?
About myPlace Health
myPlace Health was founded in 2021 by mission-aligned healthcare leaders and organizations that are committed to drastically improving health outcomes, quality and experience for vulnerable older adults and frail seniors. We specialize in providing value-based, comprehensive care and coverage for older adults with significant needs so they can thrive in the homes they love and in the communities they cherish.
Our mission is simple: to enable older adults to live the independent lives they deserve. We pursue this mission through our myPlace PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) model, which provides seamless primary care, integrated health plan coverage, personalized social engagement, and customized services delivered in the participant’s preferred place.
myPlace Health is building a mission-driven team that shares our passion for redefining the way older adults experience care as they “age in place” in the community. This is a unique opportunity to take on one of our country’s most challenging healthcare problems and join a fast-growing, dynamic team as we prepare to scale our mission to serve more markets.
About This Role
We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Clinical Systems Trainer to join our team and help us deliver exceptional care through exceptional training. If you have a strong clinical background, deep expertise in Athena One EMR, and a love for teaching others, this is the role for you!
In this role, you’ll be the go-to expert and trusted guide for our clinical, non-clinical, and provider teams as they navigate the systems and tools that power their daily work. You’ll design engaging training programs that blend hands-on learning, e-learning modules, and real-time coaching—always rooted in the principles of adult learning. Your work will ensure our teams feel confident, capable, and supported in their use of technology, from onboarding through ongoing development.
You’ll also play a critical role in identifying training needs, troubleshooting workflow challenges, and collaborating with leaders across clinical, operational, and IT functions. Whether you’re creating a quick-reference guide, leading a live training, or supporting a new team member’s first 90 days, you’ll be shaping how we deliver care by building skills and confidence across our teams.
If you love making complex systems feel approachable, creating “aha” moments through thoughtful instruction, and being part of a mission-driven, collaborative environment—we’d love to meet you.
\n- Design and lead a comprehensive training program that empowers our non-clinical staff, clinical team members, and providers to confidently use Athena One EMR and other core systems.
- Develop user-friendly training materials—think instructional videos, transcripts, simulations, and interactive e-learning modules—that meet the needs of adult learners.
- Facilitate lively and engaging in-person and virtual training sessions tailored to different roles and learning styles across the organization.
- Provide ongoing learning opportunities and refresher courses to ensure everyone stays up to speed and aligned with documentation and regulatory standards.
- Support new team members during their first 90 days through structured onboarding, personalized coaching, and performance assessments designed to set them up for success.
- Use a blended learning approach that combines classroom instruction, hands-on labs, on-the-job training, and digital tools.
- Keep learning on track by managing training documentation within our LMS and coordinating continuing education across departments.
- Be a trusted go-to expert for all things EMR—offering thoughtful guidance, troubleshooting support, and real-time solutions to help team members succeed.
- Quickly identify and resolve issues by distinguishing between user error, system limitations, and training opportunities.
- Collaborate with IT and clinical partners to resolve technical issues, enhance system performance, and make improvements that benefit the entire care team.
- Stay current with system updates and configuration changes, and adjust training content accordingly to keep everyone informed and aligned.
- Work hand-in-hand with clinical and operational leaders to evaluate team competencies and proactively address learning needs before they become roadblocks.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with leaders across clinical, operational, and IT teams to ensure training supports both daily workflows and broader organizational goals.
- Measure training effectiveness through participant feedback, performance data, and observation—and use those insights to continuously evolve your approach.
- Keep a pulse on common EMR challenges and trends, and craft targeted learning strategies to tackle them head-on.
- Maintain an organized, accessible library of training materials, quick-reference guides, and helpful resources that team members can turn to anytime they need support.
- A solid foundation in healthcare technology—you have 5 years of experience working with information systems, clinical software, or healthcare applications.
- Hands-on expertise with EMRs, especially Athena One. You’ve worked closely with EHR systems and feel confident guiding others through them.
- An educational background in Nursing, Healthcare, Informatics, or a related field is a plus (but not a deal-breaker—we value experience and passion, too!).
- Experience with clinical onboarding—you’ve helped new team members feel welcome, confident, and well-trained, ideally for at least 2 years in a healthcare setting.
- A creative and thoughtful approach to learning—you know how to build engaging training strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners.
- A strong understanding of adult learning principles, and how to translate them into impactful training experiences.
- A keen eye for workflows—you can spot inefficiencies and help teams improve the way they interact with technology.
- Expertise in training development and facilitation, particularly in healthcare environments where clarity and confidence make all the difference.
- Tech-savvy with tools like Microsoft Office, LMS platforms, and digital training resources. Experience with Relias LMS is a wonderful bonus!
- Excellent communication skills—you’re comfortable talking with anyone, from clinical leaders to front-line staff, and you know how to make complex things feel simple.
- A solutions-focused mindset—you approach challenges with curiosity, creativity, and a desire to continuously improve.
- Enjoy a Consistent Schedule – This role follows a Monday–Friday schedule, giving you the stability and work-life balance you deserve.
- Location: This is a hybrid position; with the ability to come in to office at minimum 3 times a week.
- Join Us in a Thriving Community – Our facility is located in Los Angeles, CA (90057) and Compton, CA (90221), where you’ll be part of a team dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of older adults.
