POSITION SUMMARY :
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Chief People Officer serves on the CEO’s senior leadership team and will work with the leadership team to set a strategy and develop a people services agenda that supports and aligns with the organization’s business goals. The Chief People Officer is responsible for a full range of people responsibilities, including the development and implementation of talent management / human resources policies, plans, and services. This includes recruitment, selection, legal compliance, employee benefits, compensation, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, employment practices and procedures ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local laws. The Chief People Officer will also position the Y as a community convener and collaborator to address critical social issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Creates a vibrant cause-centered culture for staff and volunteers.
- Serve as a strategic business partner to the CEO and to the senior leadership team focused on a broad-based and transformational people agenda designed to recruit, develop, and retain the very best cause driven leaders that support the mission and vision of the organization.
- Develop strategies and programs necessary to attract, develop and retain quality, high performing and highly engaged cause driven associates and volunteers that enable the Y to deliver on its mission.
- Create a recruitment and selection strategy, program and processes to ensure that high quality leaders of all levels are attracted to all areas of the organization. Maximize the efficiency, quality and cost effectiveness of the recruiting process.
- Ensure an effective orientation and onboarding program and process is implemented that supports the retention and success of cause driven leaders throughout the organization.
- Fosters the development of staff and volunteers at all levels in the organization by engaging in ongoing feedback and coaching, creating succession plans, and providing resources and support for informal and formal learning at all levels.
- Creates organizational policies and structures that remove barriers and foster equity and inclusion for all.
- Develops and maintains performance management and appraisal programs.
- Navigate employee relations and balance the needs of employees with organizational needs, working to find solutions that allow for maximum mission impact.
- Oversee compensation and benefit programs, including job description and classification, salary structure and salary adjustments. Oversees benefit plan communication, enrollment and administration. Assess the competitiveness of human resources programs and practices against the relevant markets and makes recommendations for improvements and changes.
- Remains current with employment laws and regulations. Maintains an effective program of compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources and manages relationships with compliance agencies and YMCA legal counsel.
- Oversee HR systems and employee records to ensure accuracy and improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization. Ensures timely and accurate submission of data requested by the EEOC, YMCA of USA, Department of Labor, etc.
- Works directly with assigned committees of the board to build volunteer relationships, develop policies, oversee policy implementation and meet the related needs of the board.
- Attend and represent the YMCA at community events including the chamber of commerce, YMCA fundraising events and career fairs.
- All other duties as assigned.
