What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Specialist - Centralized Scheduling position at Myrtue Medical Center?
SCHEDULE: Full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; Schedule varies between 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
The Patient Access Specialist maintains and updates computer scheduling files. Must speak clearly and be congenial and polite at all times in person and over the phone. Efficiently navigate the scheduling system and be agile with changes. Must be familiar with policies regarding scheduling of ancillary tests and appointments, maintaining current patient information and records and maintaining strict confidentiality. Must be familiar with admitting, discharging, insurance forms, confidentiality of patient information and dealing with the public.
General office experience preferred, but not required. Must have a thorough knowledge of the switchboard and filing system, all clinic policies and procedures to clinic office and hospital scheduling protocol. High school diploma or equivalent required. Secretarial training would be an asset, but not required.
Schedules appointments for patients over the phone for all rural health clinics, specialty clinics and diagnostic imaging tests at Myrtue Medical Center. Maintains and updates computer-scheduling files. Schedules appointments for tests and outpatient procedures. Calls no-show appointments at direction of nursing staff. Prepares call schedule and distributes to appropriate staff. Answers phone in a professional/friendly manner prior to fourth ring. Note: This is a partial listing of key job areas.
