What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Trainer/Fitness Staff position at MYSTIC VALLEY YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOC?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct support to members through guided, personal exercise instruction for members seeking to improve their overall health through personal training.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Promotes safe and educational personal training sessions at the YMCA.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps them connect with other members and the YMCA.
- Maintains accurate and confidential records of each member participating in personal training, tracking goals and appointments.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Maintains a safe environment at all times. Organizes and puts away equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
- Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
- Must have at least one shift a week as a Wellness Coach.
QUALIFICATIONS (ALSO CALLED ENTRY REQUIREMENTS OR KNOW HOW):
- Certifications: CPR, AED, First Aid and AED certification.
- Personal Training certification from a nationally recognized organization such as NSCA, ACE, ACSM
- Must compete required YMCA online trainings within the first week of employment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to perform exercises and movements as demonstrations for the members.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist members up to and sometimes exceeding 50 pounds in weight.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
Please note that Fitness Staff and Personal Trainers pay rates differs.
