We currently have an opportunity for a Material Handler to join our Peoria, Arizona team. This position is responsible for building wooden crates, boxes, and pallets with hand tools and/or power tools. Packers work in a team environment to package and protect products for shipment and to ensure needed items meet shipping schedules. Packers must have strong organizational skills to optimize space for shipments and to label products with all necessary shipping information. Packers are assigned to the manufacturing plant but may also work with other departments, such as warehouse support. Packers may perform other tasks as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build and assemble wooden crates, boxes, and pallets.
- Package and protect products for shipment.
- Operate forklifts to move crates, boxes, and pallets.
- Organize and optimize space for shipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Label products with shipping information.
Requirements:
- High-school diploma or equivalent.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to use woodworking equipment, such as nail guns and staple guns.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Mechanically inclined; ability to work with shop machinery and basic hand tools.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16th of an inch.
- Ability to add and subtract fractions.
- Detail oriented; meets quality standards and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
- Organized; completes work in a timely manner; able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Problem-solver; gathers and analyzes information skillfully and generates suggestions for improving work.
- Capable of working independently and as a member of a team; contributes to building a positive team spirit.
- Observes and follows safety procedures.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Manufacturing Environment – may cause exposure to heat, noise, vibration, odors, dust or moving mechanical parts.
- Medium to Heavy Work – exerting up to 75 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 35 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 15 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel materials and equipment.
- Frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
- Required to walk, see close and at distance, and talk and hear.
