General Summary :
Systematically reviews medical coding for all patient types to ensure timely and accurate submission of diagnosis and procedure codes, especially those impacting DRG-dependent reimbursement. Regularly researches, clarifies, and resolves coding issues.
Responsibilities :
- Manage and oversee the entire coding process for inpatient and outpatient services.
- Supervise E / M level code assignment for Emergency Departments.
- Conduct random account reviews to ensure proper MS-DRG for inpatients, APGs for Day Surgery, and appropriate diagnosis / procedure codes for outpatients.
- Perform daily monitoring of essential queues for timely record coding.
- Demonstrate knowledge of DRG payor issues, documentation requirements, and coding standards.
- Conduct audits to evaluate coding accuracy, documentation, and physician query practices.
- Analyze statistical and narrative reports to ensure efficient and timely coding.
- Manage coding staff within the Health Information Management department.
- Maintain budget accuracy and monitor staff productivity.
- Develop and deliver educational programs to improve coding outcomes.
- Act as a liaison with EPIC for software updates and assist in testing system changes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities.
