Overview
Join Nakupuna Foundation and the data project team this summer and gain data analytic experience at a Native Hawaiian Organization-owned family of companies! The Intern will collaborate with teammates from around the U.S. to produce actionable data analytic products to support decision making, support development and refinement of data integrations, and gain hands on experience working in several analytic tools and frameworks.
The Data Analyst Internwill have the opportunity to work across teams of services and data professionals on internal projects that directly impact the efficiency of a fast-growing organization with a workforce of over 1,300 employees. With Headquarters in Honolulu and offices throughout the United States, the relationships created within the Nakupuna Companies will serve as a basis for networking in Washington, DC, and around the country.
This position is offered through the Kāpili ‘Oihana Internship Program (KOIP) with Kamehameha Schools (https://ksbe-csm.symplicity.com/students/?signin_tab=0&signin_tab=0). This is a paid internship for a student who is available for approximately 40 hours per week, preferably for the duration of the summer term (May 12, 2025, through August 15, 2025).
Responsibilities
Assist Nakupuna Data Team by participating in the full data lifecycle including decomposing requirements from business users, performing gap analysis to identify missing data attributes, assisting data engineering efforts to onboard data attributes to our enterprise model, and creating actionable reports for our business users. Regular assignments may include reviewing existing data documentation, performing descriptive and exploratory statistics, data cleansing and wrangling, facilitating data requirements meetings, shadowing data teammates during routine data procedures, presenting data findings, and preparing data products including excel reports, dashboards, data documentation, and formal written reports.

- Gather, clean, and transform data from various internal sources to ensure accuracy and consistency for analysis.
- Support creation and maintenance of novel dashboards and features to support data decision making.
- Participate in data integration activities to consolidate data from different business systems.
- Document data analysis processes and methodologies to increase data processing transparency and productivity across departments.
- Support automation of routine reports and data analysis tasks to streamline processes and reduce manual work for departments.
Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen. In accordance with KOIP requirements, applicants must also be a resident of the State of Hawaiʻi, be enrolled as a degree-seeking student in an accredited college program, and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or greater.
Due to the hybrid nature of this internship, access to broadband WiFi is required to work effectively in a virtual office environment if the intern will not be on site in a Nakupuna office daily. Additional qualifications include intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience: First year of college or equivalent by the start of the internship. Majors in computer science, industrial engineering, business or similar field preferred.
Clearance: This position does not require a security clearance. Must be a US Citizen.

The Nakupuna Companies use a market-based compensation strategy to ensure that our employees are compensated within applicable market ranges commensurate with multiple factors, including but not limited to the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements, and position location. The projected compensation for this position is $22.00 (hourly USD). The hourly rate displayed represents the typical hourly rate for this position and is just one component of Nakupuna Companies total compensation package for employees.
