POSITION TITLE: Manager, Prospect Research

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Vice President, Development Operations, the Manager, Prospect Research independently and proactively identifies and qualifies prospective individual and corporate major donors consistent with the NAACP’s priorities and objectives, ensuring that all fundraising initiatives have a continuous pool of prospects to meet ongoing fundraising goals. Utilizing general and specialized resources, the Manager, Prospect Research oversees multiple lists of prospects. She/he will work directly with development senior leadership and NAACP senior leadership to continually refine those lists as it relates to a prospect’s propensity and capacity to support both NAACP’s comprehensive campaign goals and specific/ongoing program support.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with all staff and volunteers in a diverse and brisk environment; is self-motivated and highly organized, with exceptional attention to accuracy; is flexible with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously; exercises good judgment in handling confidential donor information, and has a keen passion for racial equity and social justice and strong alignment with NAACP’s mission and values.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Conduct reactive research and prepare briefing materials for executive and senior development staff for events and meetings, with emphasis on constituents’ capacity, interests (including philanthropic interests), and relationships; Partner with frontline fundraisers in Individual Giving and Institutional Relations (focusing on strategy development);
- Assess capacity, interests, philanthropy, and relationships to identify and qualify new prospective donors and assesses new opportunities with existing donors;
- Develop and manage special projects to expand NAACP’s network and donor pool, and lead internal processes and discussions to ensure the assignment of newly identified prospective donors;
- Prospective donors will be identified through a variety of techniques, including: (i) Program-specific and regional prospecting and mapping; (ii) Sphere of Influence Mapping; and (iii) Identification of key populations from NAACP’s wealth screening results;
- Help identify and acquire new sources for prospect research, regularly evaluates existing sources; and
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Vice President of Development Operations or designees.
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational/Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience
- At least 3-4 years of experience in Prospect Research, including experience with targeted Google searches, Salesforce, LexisNexis, NOZA, Foundation Directory Online, RelSci, Wealth Engine and other common sources;
- Experience with Blackbaud products and analyzing Securities and Exchange Commission filings and other financial data a plus;
- Demonstrated ability to peruse large volumes of information, find the details relevant to fundraising, present findings and recommendations clearly, concisely, and accurately a must;
- Candidate must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to plan and execute projects from conception to completion;
- The ability to produce and manage multiple requests at one time is essential;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality; and
- Familiarity with social justice and racial equity organizations is a plus.
