POSITION SUMMARY
The NAACP is looking for highly ambitious candidates for our State Advocacy & Growth Director positions. The State A&G Director leads statewide advocacy and organizational efforts, overseeing strategic planning, program execution, and partnerships to advance the organization's mission. This role involves managing state or multi state-level initiatives, supporting local units, and ensuring alignment with national priorities. The State Executive Director works closely with community leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to build coalitions, enhance advocacy impact, and drive membership growth across the state.
Responsibilities/Duties
The State Advocacy & Growth Director will work and coordinate directly with NAACP Field Department on program strategy for all statewide and centrally managed Field Advocacy efforts. The State A&G Director will be under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Unit Advocacy & Effectiveness and the National Advocacy Directors. The State Civic Engagement Director will be responsible for the following:
- Lead Statewide Strategic Planning and Execution
- Oversee Program Management and Operations
- Support and Strengthen Local Units
- Build and Maintain Key Partnerships
- Drive Membership Growth and Engagement
- Work in coordination with the development department to raise funds for designated state(s)
- Manage Staff and Resources
- Monitor and Report on Statewide Activities
Prioritization of Organizing NAACP Units, Partner Organizations, and the Black Community
- Network, build relations, and communicate with existing and potential partners.
- Offer strategic guidance for our volunteers and partners.
- Coordinate and oversee the distribution of advocacy tools / resources to state and local NAACP units
- Coordinate plans and activities with all progressive allies with similar state-based activities
Management-Reporting-Deliverables
- Manage the day-to-day NAACP unit field operations as related to Advocacy with a focus on hitting metric driven benchmarks, recruitment, training, and team development, where applicable.
- Provide qualitative and quantitative reports to be shared between the national, state and local NAACP
- Coordination of grant management with Field, Development and Strategy as necessary.
- Track and analyze performance.
In-State Coordination
- Work closely with Governance, Training and Compliance Team to assure unit health and compliance
- Represent the NAACP State Conference and NAACP/GSSA at the state 501c3 table, 501c4 table, and Black civic engagement table and aligned donor tables
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will possess many, if not all, of the following professional qualifications, competencies, and personal qualities:
- 3-5 years of community and grassroots organizing
- Experience in training and managing staff and volunteers in a community engagement capacity
- Experience of managing metric driven advocacy and field programs
- Proficiency in the volunteer management and communications systems
- Knowledge of issue and advocacy campaigns concerning the Black community
- Experience working collaboratively with community groups and allied organizations.
- Knowledge of state and local political landscapes
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable access to a vehicle
