Job Title: Physician Assistant
Department: Physician Office
General Statement of Duties: Provides specialty care to patients acting as an assistant to physicians in the clinic following established standards and practices.
Supervision Received: Reports directly to Physician
Supervision Exercised: over clinical staff
Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to communicable disease and bodily fluids. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Works to ensure a smooth workflow for the physician in the clinic, surgery, and in managing clinical staff.
is the first line of inquiry for clinical concerns/questions from staff on all clinical issues.
Takes “first call” for physician after hours and on weekends and triages patient calls to determine which calls need attention by the surgeon (bleeding)
Manages daily surgery flow of patients and staff to ensure a smooth, efficient surgery day
assists physician in surgery
maintains attending clinic schedule and blocks/shortens schedules when needed (if attending has a meeting to attend, etc)
Sees own clinic patients and performs a complete medical history and physical data on patients, consulting the physician on any issues or questions.. Establishes a plan, implements this plan and follows up with the patient, under the supervision of the attending.
Maintains biopsy log and ensures all biopsies are accounted for and patients are treated based on biopsy results - both for attending and for mid-levels biopsies.
Accurately codes and documents all patient encounters the day of the encounter.
Always discusses any systemic medication with the physician before initiating treatment (oral prednisone, oral retinoids, methotrexate, any TNF inhibitor or similar acting agent that suppresses the immune system, spironolactone, Propecia/finasteride, dapsone, or oral antibiotics for longer than 2 months).
Performs evaluations of employees and makes recommendations for promotion, demotion, termination.

Manages all clinical staff and makes a schedule for clinic staff 2 weeks ahead of time or greater.
maintains a list of requested days off for staff.
consults with attending on patient phone calls and returns calls or delegates to nursing staff
responsible for developing, or delegating to other clinical staff, handouts and educational materials to educate clinic staff on issues where staff need further training

Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
Administers medications and injections according to physician direction.
Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention.
Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.
Manages medical emergencies.
Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Performs related work as required.
Follows clinics policy and procedures regarding Compliance and HIPAA.
Independence of Operation: Performs duties independently in accordance with established standards and policy. Work assignments are subject to review and general direction.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Education: Graduate of an accredited PA program.
2. Experience: Three years professional experience in a clinic setting.
3. Certificate/License: Possession of a Physician Assistant License
4. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and medical care to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care. Skill in taking a medical history to assess the medical condition and interpret findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively to emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
