Position Purpose:
Accountability for the overall efficiency and the quality of patient care administered on the Unit and shift. Assists in planning, organization, coordination and direction of the clinical and administrative functions of the designated nursing unit.
Summary of Duties (not all inclusive)
- Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
- Directs patient care activities and unit functions on assigned shift and in absence of the Director.
- Makes patient care assignments for staff members on assigned shift. Patient care assignments reflect evaluation of staff member's abilities and patient care needs.
- Oversees completion of assigned unit responsibilities on designated shift. (checking crash cart, medication refrigerator, etc.)
- Assists Director or nursing supervisor on duty with staffing for current shift and oncoming shift. Makes routine employment decisions and reviews performance of professional and technical staff.
- Assist the Director in orientation of employees new to the department, including regular meetings to evaluate progress and set goals.
- Conducts counseling sessions on a timely basis and in a private confidential manner involving only those people that need to be involved.

Qualifications
- Registered Nurse Licensure through State of Texas or Compact Nurse Licensure (required)
- AHA BLS (required)
- AHA ACLS within 6 mos (required)
- TNCC within 12 mos (required)
- ENPC (Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course) or PALS within 12 mos (required)
- Read, Write, and Communicate effectively in English (required)
