Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Associate Director of International Programs.

Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Center for International Programs (CIP), which include office management and supervision of student workers, international recruitment, international student services, study abroad, and programming. The Associate Director will be primarily responsible for study abroad advising, promotion including social media, tabling and fairs, managing the Terra Dotta software, course evaluation/transfer and assessment, and will coordinate study abroad scholarships (from external and internal sources) as well as directly supervise the Program Advisor and Study Abroad Graduate Assistant. In addition serve as a DSO within the CIP office.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in overall administration of study abroad and exchange programs, including establishing study abroad program policies, setting fee structures, analyzing and solving student and administrative problems.
  • Advise students on opportunities available through USI study abroad programs, and on all aspects of the experience. Conduct presentations targeted at encouraging participation among specific groups of students (e.g., Honors Program, 21st Century Scholars, Merit Scholars, etc.).
  • Advise USI faculty in creation of experiences abroad including budget development, risk management, and application/recruitment process.
  • Manage study abroad budgets.
  • Manage Terra Dotta software for all phases of the study abroad experience, for management of participant data and for risk management/mitigation.
  • Develop and conduct study abroad orientation sessions and reentry workshops, together with other CIP staff and other USI partners.
  • Develop print and web-based materials for students participating in USI approved programs. Develop publicity and promotional materials, together with study abroad team.
  • Coordinate the study abroad peer advising program (Study Abroad Ambassadors), including weekly information sessions, tabling class presentations, orientation, and other outreach activities designed to increase participation in study abroad.
  • Serve as a support point person for inbound and outbound exchange students participating in direct exchange programs (ISEP and partner institutions).
  • Facilitate registration and enrollment verification, grade/credit evaluation and interpretation, and awarding of USI credit for all USI approved programs.
  • Coordinate the application and selection process for USI study abroad scholarships administered by the CIP, as well as the USI Foundation, Gilman and Boren Scholarship programs.
  • Communicate regularly with study abroad program staff at partner institutions and third-party providers (e.g., ISA/TEAN, CEA CAPA, CIEE, Semester at Sea, World Endeavors, Harlaxton College, etc.);
  • Chair the Study Abroad Risk Management Task Force.
  • Assist Executive Director in strategic assessment of study abroad program development and in conducting overseas site visits; represent the University in meetings with partner institutions and other study abroad providers.
  • Assist Executive Director in development of study abroad learning outcomes and program objectives and in program assessment.
  • Assist in management of CRM and communication streams for international admissions/recruitment.
  • Develop print and web-based materials and other promotional materials for international recruitment, together with other CIP staff.
  • Assume responsibilities for the CIP in the absence of the Executive Director.
  • Oversee the day-to-day office functionality in CIP.
  • Assist in campus internationalization efforts, including curriculum integration, and in implementing Center goals and objectives.
  • Assist in the supervision of employees within the Center, including administrative associate, program coordinator, program advisor, IEP staff, student employees and interns.
  • Serve on University committees and represent the University at selected local, state, regional, national and international professional conferences and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, international relations, or similar field.
  • Three years of experience in development of study abroad and/or exchange programs, including foreign credential evaluation, budget and project management, risk management, and assessment.
  • Significant experience working, living, or studying abroad.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including cross-cultural competencies.
  • As required by federal regulations, to perform Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) functions, the incumbent must be either a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with complex procedures and processes related to study abroad and international students.
  • Familiarity with immigration regulations pertaining to F and J visas, including SEVIS reporting requirements and knowledge of Department of Homeland Security regulations.
  • Experience in the development and presentation of workshops and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands in setting of high student contact and interaction required; demonstrated skills in problem solving.
  • Proficiency in using microcomputers, including word processing, spreadsheets, email software and internet resources.
  • Proven commitment to diverse perspectives, internationalization of institutional environments, and a strong career interest in the field of international education.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Knowledge And Skills

  • Foreign language skills a plus.
  • NAFSA affiliation preferred.

Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements

  • Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Frequent extended and irregular hours required including evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional local, regional, national and international travel required.
