Position Summary:

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Mount Mary University is a dynamic and inclusive catholic institution serving undergraduate women and graduate women and men. The Director of Study Abroad Programs helps to promote, develop and ensure safe and enriching study abroad experiences for the Mount Mary community. The Director also works closely with our student population to identify both program and funding opportunities. The Director teaches 3 credits per semester in a discipline within their field. There is an option for faculty status depending on the qualifications and interests of the candidate.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Expand Mount Mary University faculty involvement in university study abroad programs.
  • Teach 3 credits each semester (or 6 credits in the academic year).
  • Coordinate with faculty to develop programs that are consistent with the mission and vision of the university.
  • Create and implement budgets for all faculty-led study abroad programs, including scheduling and collecting payments and paying associated bills.
  • Promote study abroad and recruit students for the university's programs.
  • Coordinate pre-departure orientation and re-entry sessions for all study abroad participants.
  • Collaborate with faculty program leaders to plan and coordinate program logistics and itinerary, to ensure that plans meet rigorous academic standards and safety needs.
  • Identify and liaison with service partners for accommodations, transportation, entrance and event ticketing, etc.
  • Plan for and implement emergency responses as necessary and communicate to multiple stakeholders regarding the response and impact on program itinerary and student safety.
  • Research, evaluate and advise students in the process of identifying study abroad program options that fit their academic and professional goals for independent summer, semester or longer study abroad options.
  • Coordinate with university offices, including Registrar, Financial Aid, and Business in all phases of preparing for and implementing independently planned study abroad for students.
  • Design and implement workshops to promote international scholarship and fellowship opportunities, such as the Gilman Scholarship, Boren Scholarship, Fulbright, JET, etc. to students.
  • Promote international experiences and opportunities for faculty and staff, such as participation in Fulbright programs (Core, Specialist, etc.)
  • Research, evaluate, develop and maintain local and international affiliation agreements (e.g. MCIE; UCSM; Kyoto Notre Dame; and providers, ISA/CEA/SAI/Sol Education Abroad).
  • Design posters, newsletters, and other promotional materials to promote study abroad and international opportunities.
  • Promote international education and globalization on campus and the vital impact and benefits of international experience and cross-cultural competencies.
  • Design, implement and promote programming for International Education Week.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement appropriate study abroad insurance for faculty and students participating in international opportunities.
  • Devise and implement new processes, as necessary (e.g., new application process for independent semester/summer study abroad).
  • Evaluate effectiveness and assess learning outcomes of study abroad programs.
  • Manage the Study Abroad Programs in all of its facets, including performing administrative functions as they relate to the overall university as well as external partners.
  • Perform administrative functions related to the management of the Study Abroad Programs Office as it relates to the overall university.
  • Report on international insurance exposures to the CFO.
  • Create annual Schedule F report regarding international expenses for university tax reporting.
  • Generate data and reports for HLC accreditation and quarterly Board of Trustees reports.
  • Administer processes for university-based study abroad scholarships (e.g. Burke-funded Mount Mary Study Abroad Scholarship, Department Scholarship).
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned

  • Exceptional ability to multitask and prioritize projects
  • Experience abroad is required; study abroad and experience leading a study abroad program preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Administrative experience in higher education preferred

Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field
  • 2-3 years' experience in a college or university setting
