Description
The International Student Support Assistant (ISSA) is a critical Office of Global Engagement member, supporting and advising international and undergraduate study abroad students. The ISSA is responsible for promoting the retention and graduation of Rivier University's graduate and undergraduate students. In addition, the ISSA collaborates with the Director of OGE in global engagement initiatives, including faculty-led trips and on-campus programming.
Duties And Responsibilities
International Student Support
- Coordinates the international student's orientation and all cultural events at Rivier University.
- Liaise with our agents to ensure all potential and accepted students are enrolled and enter the United States smoothly.
- Collaborates with all the SEVIS DSO to ensure compliance with the Department of Homeland Security regarding admissions of the students to the USA.
- Responsible for responding to initial inquiries from international students overseas or within the United States regarding admissions and other matters related to studying at Rivier University.
- Facilitates pre-arrival and welcoming process to all accepted students.
- Guides applying for Social Security Number, driver's license and writing letters necessary for loan application and driver's license.
- Assists international students with housing and other essential services such as insurance, banking, and transportation.
- Collaborate with the campus community in cultural events.
- Creates WhatsApp group with communication privacy compliance for new and current students.
- Serves as the Rivier University's study advisor for all undergraduate students.
- Facilitates all study abroad program with the global study abroad providers.
- Coordinates faculty led-trip programs.
- Monitors and develops study abroad programs with the Director of Global Engagement.
- Provides pre-departure advising for all study abroad and faculty led trip groups.
- Provides general administrative support to OGE's programs and services, including Education Abroad (e.g., faculty-led trips, study abroad fair, etc.), International Students (intercultural events, pre-arrival, etc.) , and International Student Recruitment.
- Manages the design and delivery of education abroad information sessions (e.g. information sessions, social media promotion etc.) in collaboration with the Marketing department.
- Prepares all pre-departure needs for faculty-led trips (e.g., student trip handouts, emergency binders for faculty leaders and Director of OGE).
- Delivers pertinent information sessions such as pre-departure and unpacking sessions in collaboration with ad faculty leaders.
- Coordinates intercultural programming with international student association and collaborates with the Director of OGE, student engagement, and student organizations to expand global awareness on campus (e.g., Diwali, Spring Festival, Study Abroad Fair, etc.)
- Creates and maintains Fl Outreach Database to track international students submitted by global recruitment agencies for invoice reconciliation.
- Coordinates meetings and information sessions with global recruiters and the Director of Global Engagement.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Must be a US citizen or a legal permanent resident of the United States of America.
- Two-to Three years of experience in international education and/or student affairs (Education Abroad, International Student Services, Multi-cultural Affairs) preferred.
- Ability to work with Colleagues, SEVIS software, or any other CRM used by the institution preferred.
- Enthusiasm about working with international students, academic advising and knowledge of other complex software platforms and social media engagement.
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written and oral communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of basic concepts, principles and procedures in building and maintaining internal relations on campus.
- Knowledge of the university, its mission, goals, and objectives in promoting globalization efforts on campus.
- Effective problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to take initiative.
- Experience working in or with diverse constituencies.
- Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, and other institutional and federal regulations.
- Evidence of strong organizational abilities and the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume, environment.
